monks are meant to be masters not only of their physical body but also their mind, martial arts being a sort of spiritual enlightenment and all the meditation they do. Githzerai, one of the few races in dnd closely associated with monks as an class are also closely associated with psionics, the monk has an subclass who uses "disciplines" just like mystics, just like the mystic they have points that they can spend on supernatural abillities, there is an entire style of psionics in the lore about mystics and similar psions using their mastery of their mind as an mastery of the body, molding it like clay to fit their needs just like an monks enlightenment lets them push their bodies beyond what should be possible, the wizard, sorcerer, warlock (kinda) fighter and rouge have all gotten psionic related subclasses and yet the monk, probably the class most associated with psionics who are not psions themselves have not gotten a proper subclass yet.
Heck, the subclass almost writes itself, ether you just straight up copy the mechanics of the way of four elements monk but change the disiplines to more psionic spells, mostly derived from the "psionic spells" list given to us in the players handbook, obviously not including every single one of those spells but an good handful of the ones that might fit the monk playstyle. Then you add disiplines that are not spells to make the monk a bit more interesting just like what the four elements monk did, perhaps an 2 ki point mind blast abillity in an 15 ft cone dealing perhaps 1d8 damage and forcing the targets to make an intelegence saving throw or be stunned for 1 round, perhaps an 1 ki point abillity almost exactly like fangs of the fire snake.
Or, if you wanna get fancy take an hint of the eldrich knight or arcane trickster, slow down the level progression to that of an third caster and give them disiplinces at a similar rate to those subclasses, and then giving the monk "proper" class features at 3rd, 6th, 11th and 17th level
why havent we gotten this subclass, or something akin to it, yet? Why was this not in the psionics UA article?

y'all are missing the point, yes monks are already equiped with an healthy dose of psionic flavor, and with the astral soul you can to an even greater extent embrace your psionic heritage. Yet at the same time i feel like we have not gotten an proper psionic subclass, one that fully embraces the psionics, one that lets the monk use their supreme mental abillitie to bend the world to their will, one that lets them in an even greater way manipulate time and the space arround them, maybe one themed arround the githzerai, letting you achive the same accomplishments as their great zerths.
we probably dont even need a new psionic subclass, it might be enough to just add a few weider more psionic elemental disiplinces to the four elements monk that lets you cast like feather fall or catapult or something, and then add an variant feature like that of the now pretty old ua that lets non four elements monk get limited acess to four elements disiplices by not getting some other feature, sort of like how the ua added more options for the battle master and made them available to all fighters by letting them choose it as a fighting style

Not really. Again, everything you ask for can be achieved by talking to your DM and just re-flavouring things a bit.
probably yeah you could reflavor most of the monks abillities, take a feat and poof, psionic monk, and what i am looking for can be homebrewed in rather easily (again i already kinda did just add a handful of spells from the list of "psionic" spells in the new ua to the monk), and yet i feel that an proper, official psionic monk subclass more akin to the rouge, fighter and wizard option would fit in really nicely with the other options both for psionics and for the monk options in general. Like the astral self is defenetly neat and defenetly has a bit of psionic flavour, but it scratches an diffrent niche than an theoretical psion monk, just like how the sun soul and four elements may be similar but fill diffrent niches, again it probably does not nessesarily need to exist, just like how we done nessesarily need an psionic subclass for the rouge or an plague doctor subclass for the monk or an sorcerer origin from mechanus, but having the option would enhance the game and allow for more possibillities

Sun Soul monk is a good option if you need published material. It uses stuff you'd find in the Psychokinesis discipline; photokinesis with a small helping of pyrokinesis.
Hopefully the Astral Self and Mercy Monks make it to the next book. Astral Self is like a Metacreativity Monk. It's got it's own personal Astral Construct that helps it do martial arts. The Mercy Monk, with it's ability to heal wounds, cause wounds and excrete poisons feels very Psychometabolism.
You could even spin the Open Hand Monk as a Psychometabolism thing. Just one that doesn't use any of the more exotic aspects of the Discipline. Instead they just use their psionic talent to augment their existing physical body.
One thing I'd like to see in the future is a Monk that uses the Telepathic Combat powers. These powers (Mind Thrust, Id Insinuation, Ego Whip, Mind Blast and Psychic Crush) are part of an old combat system. Later editions of the Psion always had them on their Telepath lists, but they kind of get lost in all the other things the Psion could do. Having them front and center in a Monk Way would be a good way to pay homage to something classic. There are five defense modes too (Mind Blank, Thought Shield, Mental Barrier, Intellect Fortress and Tower of Iron Will), so it would be pretty robust.
It would have been far easier to leave monks basically as they were originally and just added levels up to 24, adding some skills they now list under the different traditions. Realistically, 90% of monks training is the same all over the world. Any Grandmaster is going to be at least minimally proficient in every tradition ability in case they ever had to defend themselves against it.
I had, and still have the 10 pages of material that go with him, monk with psionic ability from the late 70's/early 80's. Under the old rules, it took me about 3 years to get him to level 17, then kept playing the character and added 3 more levels. Being able to stun, feeblemind, and put fear in high level creatures helped immensely before attacking them. Don't nned a subclass per se, just the chance to get the ability when the character is created.

i dont understand at all what you are trying to say in any of the paragraphs you have written, especially how adding epic levels to the game negates the need of an psionic subclass and what your old character from some previous edition has to do with this

This is a home-brew I made that I think accomplishes it. Based on the Way of the Four Elements monk, but retooled. Instead of just picking a few spells that you use Ki points on, you choose disciplines. Each discipline unlocks a few spells. When you reach your capstone ability, you take mastery in one of the disciplines to unlock a couple more spells.
All the spells use Ki points to cast. I did my best to balance it, but had to use spells from the basic rules which restricts some of the more fun options when sharing. Anyway, here it is. I think it works haha. Im always curious for feedback.

I hear you since I am a fan of the monk class. But I have also been playing a githzerai astral self monk since it debuted, in my main game. I always saw the astral self as a psionic monk especially because of my affinity for the Gith race. Though I now also have a character that is a psi knight and one that is a soul knife. After honestly enjoying the retake on those two classes I can see a way to tweak the astral self to make it feel more psionic. Use the psi die to assist on failed insight, perception and persuasion checks. The die determines how long your astral self last since there were many complaining that 10 minutes is broken. Add a ki point by reducing the size of your psi die.
Have either an invisible mage hand or telepathy feat included and that should be pretty solid. Just an opinion from someone that has played the class nonstop in a campaign.

I mean, astral self could be read as psionic. Energy arms ECT.
Monks already are pretty psionic, just change the flavouring.
Kensei with the telekinetic feat is basically a jedi
Or Open Hand with the 15ft knock back being Force Push.

Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:

I have a help ticket in on it. Hopefully resolved soon, and then I’ll repost.
