Long time observer, first time poster. I hope you smart people can help me answer this question about the Drunken Master's 6th level ability, Tipsy Sway.
The second feature of tipsy sway allows the drunken master to use a ki point to redirect an attack meant for them, which missed, at another target within 5ft. so long as that target is not the attacker. The verbiage of the feature has me confused. See below:
"When a creature misses you with a melee attack roll, you can spend 1 ki point as a reaction to cause that attack to hit one creature of your choice, other than the attacker, that you can see within 5 feet of you."
This implies the redirected attack automatically hits the new target. This doesn't seem like the intention behind the ability, so I checked the sage advice forum and the new errata for Xanathar's Guide to Everything. I was unable to find additional guidance.
If that is the case, there could actually be a weird but viable tactic where someone who always misses attacks an ally and they redirect it into an enemy

D&D, Youth Work and the Priesthood sadly do not typically interact... I do what I can!
Haha! Funny. The way it is written I think "a creature" could even be the monk himself... The ******** pugillist
Another funny utilization would be a super-weak companion character with great-weapon fighter.
Make them a Kobold (-2 Strength) and with Standard Array put the 8 in Strength. Then give them a Maul (Heavy 2d6), and because they are small with a Heavy weapon they will be attacking with Disadvantage. As a Fighter, at level 1 pick up Great Weapon Fighting and level 4, as you said, pick up Great Weapon Master...
With all of that done they have a -5 to hit and Disadvantage - Extra points for picking up Battle Master and using Superiority Dice on this also. It would be a fun and quirky team build!
One has to spend a Ki point and it has to be a miss against the Monk. So, I think it's a decent ability as written verbatim - ...to cause that attack to hit... - not roll to hit the next target, but to simply hit successfully.
Sadly, a fumble doesn't mean a critical for the redirected hit. That would be awesome to RP. I understand why it's just a normal hit regardless, but it would be extra funny.
Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.

Hello all,

May I have your thoughts?

That's how I read it too.
