I am currently planning to play a level 2 variant human crossbow expert paladin who will multiclass into hexblade warlock and I need ability scores(point buy), a background, and spells. Please help. I only have 16 hours, though, so... please hurry.
Replace Paladin with Fighter and you are good to go. Paladin adds very little to a crossbow build. You need to waste points for 13 STR or 15 if you want to wear plate armor compared to just sticking to 14 DEX for medium armor requirements which automatically qualify you for the Fighter multiclass. You also cannot pick the Archery Fighting Style with Paladin nor can you add Divine Smites to your crossbow attack. The Fighter on the other hand gets you the aforementioned Archery Fighting Style while also giving you Action Surge and a small heal per rest in Second Wind.
If you want a build for a Fighter Hexblade then I would go:
STR 8 DEX 14 CON 14 (13+1) INT 10 WIS 12 CHA 16 (15+1) picking up Crossbow Expert with the bonus feat.
Gonna be a tough one with the requirements of paladin. You are gonna need a decent charisma, strength, and dexterity. Con ideally is reasonable too. That’s gonna leave you pretty light.
but if you got for it your most important stat is charisma. If you make your weapon your pact weapon you can work around needing the dex. But that’s many levels in and without a good dex you are gonna feel rough.
it’s a fun idea but I think in practice it is gonna require a bit too much to be effective.

I am being a Paladin Hexblade. I am giving up archery fighting style for Defense. Lay on Hands replaces Second wind(okay, Lay on Hands is a full action, but it has way more hit points in it and can heal others). I think so far the plan is good CHR, DEX, and CON for level 1, with leather or scale mail armor. I'm just going to get rid of my rapier and use the "modify your character" role can change minor stuff about your character between sessions levels 1-4, and yes the DM is the sort of guy who uses that role) to switch to 16 CHR, 16 CON, 13 STR, and use the Hexblade ability to make my hand crossbow use CHR(re-adding a rapier at Hexblade 3/Paladin 2 as pact weapon, putting me back into divine smites. I wasn't really intending to use Divine smite at low levels anyway). At that point I'll probably grab a shield. I have figured that out, but I still need a background and spells, though. And this is a Paladin forum, not Fighter. If I wanted to take a basic crossbow expert fighter I would have put this on Fighter forums.

My main point is being a crossbow Hexadin is not a very good build. You don't have to go Fighter, you could go straight Hexblade and it would be a better build. If you are dead set or being a Hexadin I would suggest dropping the crossbow part of the build and just use Eldritch Blast for your ranged option. If you wish to go melee the Hexadin route then I would go with this build:
STR 14 DEX 10 CON 14 (13+1) INT 8 WIS 12 CHA 16 (15+1) and the free feat I would take is Heavy Armor Master to bump your STR to 15 to wear plate armor.

Can you stop trying to make me change my mind about this build? I like this build, and if all you have to contribute to it is reasons why it doesn't work, don't contribute.
I don’t think he is being unfair. By all means play the build. It will have some problems, especially in the early game and it’s fair he is letting you know what those are. By all means still play it and have fun. Just make sure you meet the strength and charisma requirements for paladin and warlock. Point buy wise you are going to need to hard dump a bunch of stats. Int and wis are probably going to need to be 8.
Are you crossbow from level 1? And what AS generation are you using cos you are gonna need a bunch
Edit- just did point buy and went 15 charisma, 13 strength, 12 con, like 14 dex and and 10 and 8 for the rest. It’s doable but it’ll feel slow until the warlock pickup. After that it’ll be ok.
spell wise I am not seeing anything in particular that is screaming this is what we need. I’d say grab the standard paladin set and go from there. feat wise, crossbow expert, sharpshooter later on.
also just fair warning. Divine smite only works on melee weapons so might wanna chat with dm to see if he will let you use range
Once you get your warlock levels I would recommend hellish rebuke, Charm person, and darkness. I tend to use them quite frequently and I find them to be very fun and quite useful.
Okay. I have a week before the next session(at level 3). I'm multiclassing into warlock here. Ability spread is CHR>CON>STR>WIS>DEX>INT. Any other suggestions for spells?

paladins can only smite with melee weapons. Xbow works against you
