Hiya! I wanna start off by saying it's fun exploring character ideas. One that's been sitting in my mind rent free for months is aasimar haunted one.
I dunno how valid reddit is for dnd opinions, but I'm a total noob so their opinions have more insight than my own. Anyways... I'm scrolling on Google and I type "aasimar haunted one" cause the idea of angelic character that's also haunted is a funny/cool concept. I see someone on reddit had a similar question and I'm looking at the responses and spy an interesting backstory potential.
Someone mentioned the idea of a demon being reincarnated as an aasimar. This feeels like a potentially really cool idea. What do you guys think? I like it myself.
Anyways... I like to imagine as an aasimar, he sought repentance and became a paladin. I'm leaning towards neutral good because I like to imagine my reincarnated aasimar paladin having a soft spot for the more... morally ambiguous characters.
Personality wise... I kinda find the concept if this character having a fierce temper. Easy to anger, but genuinely cares about the interests of others and tries to be a good person.
What do you guys think? I'm curious if theres any ways I can improve him. Any suggestions? Or ideas?
Would your intention be for the character's temper to be their flaw? i.e- they can turn a tense situation violent that might have been diffused? How would you imagine that manifesting? I like the idea of an Aasimar as a reincarnated demon, but will their temper be them falling back on their old ways? Could it even manifest physically somehow (eyes go black, horns appear or something)?
I really like that in D&D the backgrounds all have a rich set of traits, bonds and flaws that you can choose from or randomise when you don't quite have something of your own yet; sometimes it can help to fill out that part of the character, try to choose what seems closest to your character idea, then change them if you need to.
For example, one of the Haunted Ones I love is "I’m a monster that destroys other monsters, and anything else that gets in my way. (Evil)", now obviously it's not an ideal fit for a good character, but it doesn't have to be a permanent mindset; this could be how temper manifests, as an utterly ruthless streak that can sometimes come out, and leave the character seeking forgiveness for their actions later?
I have a Fighter/Barbarian Minotaur character I'm currently playing in a campaign who I decided early on would have a problem with her temper; ordinarily she tries to be friendly, wants people to like her etc., but she has a temper she can't always control. While in some situations I know what that's going to mean, e.g- if some loudmouth picks a fight she's probably going to put them through the ceiling, but other times I roll a simple Wisdom check; 11+ she remains controlled (not necessarily calm), 6-10 she's angry, 2-5 she's violent, and natural 1 she will straight up try to kill whoever set her off (as in full Rage, all Reckless Attacks head down and charge kind of angry). It's good for when I don't quite know what the right response for the character is, and adds a little bit of extra chaos to proceedings (if that's the kind of thing that suits the group).
Do you have a particular oath in mind yet? Oath of Devotion or Redemption are the obvious choices for making amends, but also a bit vanilla "pure good" leaning so may not suit, you've got plenty of other options though; Vengeance could work if you renounce your past (i.e- demons might be your target for vengeance, either all of them, a particular group or one specific one), Crown or Watchers are interesting ones mechanically though you might need to tweak the theming a little, i.e- Crown could work if your loyalty is to whoever (or whatever) resurrected you, Watchers works to same idea of "former demon protecting others from demons".
Of course you can change the theming on just about any oath if you want to, so it can be very much about what you want mechanically; i.e- do you want to be a character who throws themselves into a fight, or who is focused on protecting others above all else?
Anyway, hopefully some of the rambling is useful. 😂

The bad temper was a personality trait, a bad personality trait, but not his biggest flaw. I was kinda leaning towards his old self manifesting like you said, butI hadn't black eyes and horns bit. That's a really cool idea I wanna give the character.
"I try and save everyone even if they are a lost cause." Is his big flaw. I see this as his attempt to make up for his life as a demon. Atone for his past behavior and because he wants to save and redeem others like how he was offered Redemption.

Backgrounds are fun to make. I usually like getting creative and making my own backstories but dndbeyond has some good stuff to work with and use.

Sounds good. I'll keep that in mind.

The anger rolls is a cool idea. I like that. Even you the player lack control of your character's anger. I may need to borrow that.

I started off as paladin of devotion, but watcher sounds cool.

Dnd has a lot of cool creative opportunities to create your story the way you want it to be so I'll keep this in mind.
Anyway, hopefully some of the rambling is useful. 😂
By all means! As someone that loves to make unnecessarily long bios and character descriptions this kinda post is downright entertainment. Got a lot of good stuff from it.
