Aasimar Paladin can be a lot of fun! My current (first and so far only) character in Adventurers League is a Level 5 Protector Aasimar Paladin.
As for advice, I don't have a whole lot to give yet, as I'm still fairly new to the game. However, decide which version of the Aasimar you want. The DMs guide has an example writeup, but Volo's Guide to Monsters has a much better treatment of the race, IMO, including 3 variants, and some interesting lore/rp ideas. All Aasimar get +2 CHA, which is great for Paladin, but the other stats vary based on the type of Aasimar you choose. Other than the stats, the traits are decent. Light cantrip, some resists, darkvision, and a fun transformation power based on your subrace.
Since I"m playing in AL, there hasn't been much time for personal background quests/details, but if I were in a home game, I would be working with my DM to discuss the nature of my Angelic Guide, and how that guide speaks to me and instructs me.. I find that aspect of the race, as well as their desire frequently stay anonymous, very interesting.
I have a level 3 fallen Aasimar vengeance paladin of lathander. My theme is new beginnings and trying to find my way back after being kidnapped and torture by a devil cult as a child.
In recent combat Our entire team was fighting to protect different positions and I got left in a pickle. I had four goblins/kobability me.my team didn't know I was an aasimar... I just told them I was human...
Then as I kept getting hit over and over I kept complaining about the pain causing me to see nothing but darkness. and as all four got to me I used the frighten ability to transform. Boom. Win. :-)
I'm about to start a campaign as a Tiefling Paladin, Trying to counter the prejudices of his demonic appearance with his deeds. The racial CHR boost helps as well
I have a level 10 Aasimar Oath of Vengeance Paladin of Torm. In my opinion, the ideal Paladin race option. Holy warrior, you were born for this work. You are the bane of everything that is unholy.
From what I’ve seen aasimar’s make great paladins. If you’re not sure, you could also try Dragonborn. Cool flavor, and some cool abilities (though they don’t scale as well)
I currently play an Aasimar Oath of Devotion. Aasimars are great for the paladin class mechanically and narratively. You have a nice healing ability and being able to fly doesn't hurt. Plus being divine in nature gives you an easy narrative as to why your a paladin.
Very much sets you into an assumed background. The more you develop your character, the more will fall into place. statistically, +2 charisma is never a bad idea for a paladin. resistance to necrotic furthers your validity of a warrior of the light.
this thread was started a few months ago, I am curious how it is going for you. I find that once you get past character creation, it is all up to you on the enjoyment of the class. You decide how far, how strong, and how devoted your character is to their faith.

Current campaigns - DM - Tomb of Annihilation home game

But I prefer race and class that, at first glance, do not quite fit togheter. This way there is more material for roleplaying.
Tbh I live for characters like that. Nothing is wrong with playing the "type," like a human fighter for example. But I just love seeing characters who seem like they shouldn't be what they are.
But yeah everyone's pretty much hit the nail on the head already. Aasimar are very on theme w/ paladin, and each one has a kit that fits real snug into the Paladin's overall intended role.
I'm currently playing a Scourge Assimar Warlock whos parents were Paladins. He took on Hexblade to try to save them, but ultimately failed. I'm going to multi class into Paladin once he deals with his emotional baggage and take up the Redemption oath. My current build plan has me landing 14/6 Warladin, specializing in mixing Radiant/Necrotic/Force
A character I’m playing is a Scourge Aasimar Paladin/Sorcerer (6/3). I must say it’s quite potent in combat. If you’re trying to optimize I wouldn’t recommend Aasimar, but you’re not hurting yourself by choosing that option.

One of my favorite characters to play is a fallen aasimar fighter who recently swore an Oath of Redemption. Her tendency towards violence being tempered by her renewed faith in the goddess she believed had abandoned her makes for a lot of fun role-playing.

I am currently playing a Scourge Aasimar Paladin of the Crown. Nothing is as fun as going super sayain on a big fight and champion challenge/ compelled duel so they sit and burn in your holy aura. Oath of Devotion was very tempting as well due to the super sayain 2 at lvl 20 but story wise Crown just worked better.

Yes, technically an aasimar is the perfect race for a paladin.

Didn't have a chance yet, but I would try a fallen aasimar warlock, which struggles for survival and to regain his status of "normal" aasimar.
Everything is good - if it sounds cool to you, play it.

Absolutely, Aasimar's are basicly taylor made to be Paladin.

Fallen Aasimar Oathbreaker Paladin - First session is on Sunday. I am pumped.
Winter - Air Genasi Fiend Pact Warlock
I like the idea of a Protecter Aasimar paladin becoming a Fallen Aasimar oathbreaker.
Would you combine the Aasimar feature Healing Hands and the paladin feature Lay On Hands?
