im in a search for my second char since my ongoing campaign is about to end , and i was so confused because i was between a Paladin and a wizard Necro for the pets. And as a god sent idea oathbreaker came to my mind .. My mind set was Fallen Ashimaar Oathbreaker since the flavour is too strong in that combo but i have no idea how to build it. Its gonna be point buy for the abilities. I had a DK (wow) theme in my mind but i would love to have some ideas from ppl more experienced than me..
so your goal is to create an necromancer supreme, one who has the mighiest of undead minions at his side?
well to start with charisma will be more important than intelegence, palladin has a bunch of auras that buff nearby creatures and it will be important for aura of hate, your main ability, whereas undead thralls and grim harvest both have no benefit in you having an high intelegence scores and most necromancy spells you probably want dont ether, unless you are going to go for vampiric touch, eneveration and danse macabre you should not have your intelegence too far above 13. As for other abillity scores constiution will be really important for anyone but necromancers in particular like to manipulate hit points and have concentration active. Strength is also an good idea to have a decent score in, since it is the score you attack with.
In terms of minions your best bet is to ether go for oathbreaker right away all the way up to third level since that gives you channel divinity: command undead, letting you steal the hard work of another necromancer for yourself, or to really go for wizard the first five levels to get animate dead as soon as possible, up to you but remember that most of your raw power will likely be derived from palladin. Some DMs might allow you to copy animate dead into your spellbook if you have at least 3rd level spell slots and are a wizard, but that is techinically not how the class is supposed to work so check with your DM
as for what spells to prepare, if you have wizard levels and you dont have extra attack, getting booming blade is an good idea, otherwise try to go for spells that dont require concentration that buff your undead minions like aid, longstrider, mage armor, etc and beyond that the spells animate dead, danse macabre if you are the right level, negative energy flood, summon greater demon, find familliar are all useful, as is find steed and find greater steed.
(disclaimer: i have very limited practical knowledge of these two classes, i just kinda like reading the sourcebook and comming up with builds)

i am soup, with too many ideas (all of them very spicy) who has made sufficient homebrew material and character to last an thousand human lifetimes
i failed to mention that i dont like subclasses so i want to stick to Paladin. i spoke with my DM about oathbreaker and i can play him under certain lore paths. i was searching till a moment ago and i found out that most of the builds are focusing in POM and Sentinel, and that requires to spend 4 ability points or i can go Variant human which is my second option but almost no flavor at all (in my mind).
wait when you say you dont like subclasses, do you mean that you dont like the concept in general? or did you mean multiclassing, the concept of dabbling in multiple classes? I assumed you were trying to make an wizard paladin multiclass since i saw you mention those two classes my bad honestly i should have ready your question a bit more carefully
and what is wrong with playing an human? they can be just as flavourful as any other race in the game, in fact they can be more flavourful than many other races depending on the feats and backgrounds you have chosen for your character you. And just becuase most people go for an polearm master build or an sentinel build that does not by any means mean you have to take those feats, in fact there are so many better feats to choose from, from great weapon master to dual weilder to heavy armor master, if you think raising your abillity scores is more important than any feat then that is fine, raise your abillity scores, play an race that is not human if you really dont wanna play an human, just becuase others pick those two feats does not mean you have to to be viable, palladin is an really strong class as is.
But so assumign you are playing an completely normal oathbreaker palladin, and you want to play an fallen aasimar, you should put your highest abillity score in charisma, your next highest score in strength and your third highest abillity score in constitution. That is all the advice you need on your build, but here are some pieces of advice for playing an paladin:
Always remember that you can prepare new spells every day, and that the find steed spell, if cast even once allows you to have an companion that lasts practically forever, remember that you always automatically have your oath breaker spells prepared and that they do not count against the limit of spells you can prepare, hellish rebuke can be used whenever you are hit with an attack, if you want your foes to fear you, to truly dread your existance you might like the spell wrathful smite, the frightened condition is described in appendix a of the players handbook, but basically any creature who is frightened gets disadvantage on abillity checks and attack rolls while the source of its fear is within a line of sight and an creature who is frightened cannot willingly move closer to the source of its fear. Since both an racial trait, one of your channel divinity options and an spell you are likely to get all inflict the frightened condition, it might be a good idea to remember that, remember that you do not need feats to be effective, etch your holy symbol into your weapon or your shield so you may use it as an spellcasting focus, letting you ignore material components and letting you complete somatic components with your hands full, remember to have your allies close to you so they benefit from your aura and there, now you know how to play palladin so go on, have fun, smite the forces of good and be the evil little edgelord you have always wanted to be

wow, how much time did you spend to type all this? i really really appreciate it. Truth be told human idd can flavor things up (im looking at you Arthas ) did some builds here in beyond and in 8 lvl as an Aasimar you lose 2 ability points but you earn the racial feats plus the necrotic shroud that gives the +dmg... Saying all that i might go Assimar after all.. XD
i belive you are misstaken here, there is no official source published as of now that provides racial feats to the aasimar (you could argue that prodigy should be avaiable to aasimar since they are half humans, but if tieflings dont get prodigy then nether should their celestial counterparts), unless you are using non official homebrew material, also please remember, that in the end it does not matter how optimal or suboptimal your build is, as long as you have fun and you enjoy playing your character, dont worry about weak or strong abillities and just pick whatever you think sounds cool
