I believe Wizards of the coast has been strangely silent on very basic Ranger questions for a while. I have seen tweets to sage advice and JC asked but never answered. I would like to collect questions in hopes that eventually someone will see it and give it actual discussion time or answers. Preferably it will be In sage advice or dragon talk or something similar some time down the road.
This is not a debate Thread. Only List questions you think should be answered.
This thread is for people who would accept an answer from said sources as actual game guidance.
Questions that can be answered simply preferred. (yes, no, DM decision or a Number)
Every once and a while I will try to collect favorite and best worded questions.
IF a question gets an official answer feel free to reference it But it must be from sage advice or dragon talk.
Unearthed Arcana does NOT Count. Wait for official material only.
Starter list.
Does favored terrain bonus include Creatures?
Can Favored terrains overlap?
Can a PHB beasmaster companion Hide? Search? What action should it take?
How many times should a PHB beast master be able to harvest Venom from a sleeping companion Per rest?
What happens when A phb beasmaster Resurrect a dead companion after gaining a new one?
Does swift quiver duplicate poisoned arrows?
Can a ranger choose to limit Primeval Awareness distance at the time of initial use?
EDIT Per suggestion/clarification: In regards to hide in plain sight, Can a ranger create camouflage and hold on to it for later use? is it expended/destroyed when used? does re-camouflage mean re-create or just re-hide?
Envoyofwater: For the purposes of Natural Explorer, do cities and towns count as separate Terrains or do they qualify as part of the surrounding terrain? Example dungeon of the mad mage.
Are coasts and open Ocean considered different terrain?
Envoyofwater: How does Tasha's Primal Companion interact with Bestial Fury? Specifically, can you command it to make two attacks as a Bonus action or not?
Are the ranger Listed terrains suppose to cover all possible Natural places? Are there other terrains?
Can a fastieth PHB beastmaster companion Use quickness(bonus action dodge) without an action from the ranger?
Can a samurai and Feywanderer add wisdom once or twice to charisma checks?
Quick note: on #7, I think you meant Primeval Awareness.
My questions:
-How does Tasha's Primal Companion interact with Bestial Fury? Specifically, can you command it to make two attacks as a Bonus action or not?
-Related to one of yours above: for the purposes of Natural Explorer, do cities and towns count as separate Terrains or do they qualify as part of the surrounding terrain?
-Do all natural Terrains in the game get grouped under one of the listed Favored Terrains (similar to creature types)? Or are there Terrains missing from the list?

Thank you. your version of 7 and 9 Are better than mine.
So right now I'm Not satisfied with a couple of areas Input would be nice as to how to best word a question (or questions ) for the following areas. We need more definitive questions that aren't leading questions or Double barreled ones.
Tasha's beastmaster has much debate still going on about the attacks and And actions. Tasha's beasts as a whole still gets weird opinions.
There was a multi-class Double wisdom bonus to charisma checks. It was fey wanderer and samurai (I think). Any other multiclass questions would be good.
does any one think fog-cloud related questions should be added? What about other ranger spells in general.
I have almost no experience with monster hunter. are there any odd interactions?
Any weird share spells questions? Warding bond?
Is there any debate on PHB beast death saves these days?
The fey's shortsword deals 1d6 + Fey's Dexterity + Spell's Level piercing + 1d6 Force. Are the additional piercing and force damage coming from the sword or the fey? Put another way, which of these is correct?
The fey can hand the shortsword to someone else, and that someone else deals spell level additional piercing damage + 1d6 force damage with it.
Someone else can hand the fey a shortsword, and the fey will deal spell level additional piercing damage + 1d6 force damage with it.
It's well established that whenever the summoned fey stabs someone and deals damage, the summoner counts as having dealt damage with a spell (by the same logic as Life clerics casting goodberry). Likewise, if the fey were to kill someone, the summoner would count as having killed that someone with a spell - see the Necromancer ability Grim Harvest. The point is, the summoner "owns" the summon's actions with respect to abilities that refer to a spell - when the fey hits, a spell you cast has hit, and so on. If the fey's attack somehow deals fire damage, elemental adept (fire) would let that fire damage ignore fire resistance. So far as I know, this isn't in doubt.
How does this interact with abilities that don't say the word spell, but do refer to ownership of an attack? For example, Fey Wanderers have Dreadful Strike, which requires the FW to hit a creature with a weapon. When the summoned fey hits a creature with a weapon, has the FW hit a creature with the weapon, allowing Dreadful Strike to apply? This question is actually very generic - I'm asking if, when a creature you summoned via a spell, does something, whether or not you count as having done that thing for the purpose of abilities that require you to do that thing.
Note that for the above, Fey Wanderers are a special case with more interest than most: normally, all summon spells that summon something that can deal damage are Concentration. Fey Wanderers can cast Summon Fey without concentrating on it, meaning they need to know if their summons count for effects which normally require Concentration, such as Hunter's Mark or Favored Foe (both whether or not the summon's hit allows a mark and whether or not the summon's hit can apply FF damage).

my first thought is those questions need refinement (in the sense that there is a lot going on not that they are bad questions). I think it needs to be separated into smaller questions. or parsed out in a manner the wizards team would actually answer. They tend to avoid longer or multi- rules dependent questions.

Sorry, here's a briefer version ignoring the greater rules questions, hopefully we can figure out precedent from them:
If a Fey Wanderer casts Summon Fey, takes the Fey's shortsword, and hits someone with it, how much damage does it do, and of what types?
If a Fey Wanderer casts Summon Fey and gives the Fey a Flame Tongue Shortsword, and the fey hits someone with it, how much damage does it do, and of what types?
Can a Fey Wanderer's Favored Foe ability mark a target hit hit by a fey the Wanderer summoned with Summon Fey?
Can a Fey Wanderer's Favored Foe ability deal extra damage to a target hit hit by a fey the Wanderer summoned with Summon Fey?
Can a Fey Wanderer's Dreadful Strikes ability deal extra damage to a target hit hit by a fey the Wanderer summoned with Summon Fey?
There are many questions I have about the Tasha's Primal Companion; I'll try to be brief.
Do the Beastmaster subclass abilities gained at levels 7, 11, and 15 that apply to the beast companion also apply to the primal companion?
When a Beastmaster determines "the kind of animal the beast is" for the Primal Companion, does the Primal Companion gain non-statblock abilities the chosen animal has, e.g. not having to roll Constitution saves to resist extreme cold if the animal is a reindeer?
When a Beastmaster determines "the kind of animal the beast is" for the Primal Companion, if the animal can speak a language, such as Giant Owl, that the Beastmaster knows, can the Primal Companion also speak it?
When a Beastmaster determines "the kind of animal the beast is [...] appropriate for the stat block" for the Primal Companion, what criteria should be viewed as necessary for the chosen animal to be appropriate?
Not sure how to ask this question briefly in a way that conveys what I'm getting at. It's a manifold question. Here's an attempt at asking it in two questions.
If the chosen animal has an aspect the companion does not, does that disqualify? If the answer depends on the aspect, which ones matter?
If the chosen animal lacks an aspect the companion has, does that disqualify? If the answer depends on the aspect, which ones matter?
For example, the Beast of the Land has Charge and a Climb Speed; no beast in the Monster Manual has both at once. Meanwhile, it's a Medium creature - can you choose a Large animal and have the Companion be a dwarf or juvenile? The chosen animal's body shape can matter in many contexts, such as when acquiring magic items that need to fit, like horsehoes, or in social contexts, like if you're talking to the Clan of the Cave Bear and you want your companion to look like a Cave Bear cub.

I think most of those questions are simply answered "you get the stat block you choose." You can describe it any way you want but "Kind of beast" is descriptive and stat blocks are mechanical. Most people would say that interpretation is flat out raw no debate needed But I will try to add something along those lines.
#1 is an great question I didn't even consider until recently.
I'm thinking of a reorganizing of the questions by grouping. I expected this to happen once we got a lot more questions. New threads have drawn my attention to some new questions as well.
@quindraco I've asked #1 in the D&D Discord recently (AL channels), admins didn't really jump to it. Other players agreed that it's probably the intent that the higher level features interact with Primal Companion (otherwise it would be severely lacking), though it's not written in there, and it's even mentioned that "If you take a feature that replaces another feature, you gain no benefit from the replaced one and don't qualify for anything in the game that requires it." so a ruling on that would be greatly appreciated (since the Beast Master has enough "ask your DM" stuff as is).
Doubt they would give a definitive answer for #2 to #4 (though I'd like it very much), and just let if fall back to "ask your DM".
One question I would add, also about the Primal Companion, is: "Are your Primal Companion beast statblocks 'persistent'? I.e. if you summon a Beast of the Land, then later swap for a Beast of the Sky, and the following day swap back for a Beast of the Land, is it supposed to be the same Beast of the Land you had before or a different one?"
Again, this could fall in "ask your DM" and you could negotiate in a particular game, but at least a Sage or AL Admin ruling would be greatly appreciated for a direction or intent. This matters when you have your Primal Companion interacting with persistent effects such as Awaken and Wish-granted resistances, or even carrying some gear around like Barding or an Insignia of the Claws.

I would love some response from JC regarding a tweet he posted years back about how primeval awareness was crucial in a CoS game he was in. I'm a fan of the ability, but the world would benefit from more insight from other trusted sources on how to use this ability effectively.
I intend to update and re-organize the questions, In the near future. I know I said it a while back and I got distracted.
Now that WOTC owns dnd beyond there is a particularly interesting update to the situation. We{in this thread} have officially requested specific Rules clarifications on ranger spells, abilities. My request interactions for live events, twitter, youtube videos and have received no responses. And the ranger section is one of the smallest for sage advice even though its the class with the most varied interpretation of its abilities.
We want to know at least some of the RAW, RAI or even admissions that its designed fordms choice. There has been plenty of time since the release of the PHB for the team to develop an official stance. Answers from any Official source are welcome.
As for more questions, I know steelwind strike was a heated topic of some threads since the last update. and more people are still questioning PHB pet death saves.

There is a deliberate reason I did not include JC tweets as acceptable answers in this post. :)
Edit: note: I actually appreciate his tweets but they spark debate.
Nice.
I'd love the official answer to 7. I'm forever trying to persuade my dm to agree to me being able to choose the distance of my scan.
One more for the list - What are the limits, practicalities of "Hide in plain site"? (and then I noticed it's already there as point 8)
Great and useful topic! Way to go.

This is a question about a spell, but said spell is a core defining feature of a ranger subclass from Tasha's, so I'm asking it here.
Spell is here: Summon Fey

Are there any new questions that need adding to this thread following the latest iterations of the ranger?
Do we think that now wizards have visibility of these forums we might be able to get some clarity on these questions?
