I have been seeing a lot how Ranger seems pretty lackluster and finally thought of the idea to go ahead and make my own take of it. I would totally like some feedback on some changes that should be made. Also I had a tough time thinking of a level 17 and 20 ability so feedback for that would be appreciated as well.
Two things I've been thinking of for the 2024 Ranger:
1. Damage from Hunter's Mark should scale up with the duration or the number of times it can be used without a spell slot with Favored Enemy: Someting like Lvl 1-4: d6; Lvl 5-8: d8; Lvl 9-12: d10; Lvl 12-16: 2d6; Lvl 17-20: 2d8. That makes it a bit more powerful but not OP in my opinion.
2. Level 17 and 20 could both be having a certain level spell always prepared and maybe even being able to cast it once per long rest without a spell slot. This would be similar to what other classes get. At Level 17 this could be a 3rd Level Spell - you could even make it specific like conjure barrage or lightning arrow. At Level 20 it could perhaps be steel wind strike or even commune with nature always prepared and able to cast once per long rest without a spell slot. If you look at Bard at level 20 they get power word kill and power word heal always prepared (they still have to use their sole 9th level spell slot to cast it, but still...) and Cleric can use their Greater Divine Intervention and choose wish so I think it's fairly equivalent.
