Art by Magali Villeneuve, who, as I understand it, made it for the Throne of Elrdaine series.
Alice Ayuso was the crown princess of the Astorian Kingdom...once. Her father was cruel and abusive, taking out his frustrations at not having a male heir on his only daughter. Her mother was cold and distant, standing by and letting her husband continue his abuse on their daughter. But something was about to change. Far off, in the lands of the Feywild, an Archfey known as the Lady of the White Well (also sometimes referred to as the White Queen) wished for a daughter to love and care for. Due to a curse put upon her by Corellon, she could not find a mate whose child she could bear. Instead, she made a deal with a coven of hags. The hags promised her a child to raise until her 18th birthday. On that day, the child would leave her side. In exchange, the hags would one day request a favor from the Lady of the White Well. With the terms of the agreement set in stone, the hags went to work.
They crafted a Changeling, whom they sent into the material plane to replace an abused child. The changeling made its way to the Royal Palace of Astoria and marked Alice as its target. Alice was then lured away from home and into the Feywild by a white rabbit. Unbeknownst to her, she was then replaced by the Changeling. Alice wandered the Fey woods for a long time, lost and alone, until she came upon The Lady of the White Well's palace. The Lady took Alice in and raised her as her own. Under the caring eye of the Lady of the White Well, Alice grew skilled in the arts of the blade, the bow, and the pen. The Lady of the White Well eventually entrusted her to serve as envoy to the Fey Courts. Alice became skilled at navigating both the wilderness of the Feywild and the dangerous cunning of the Archfey.
Meanwhile, back home, the Changeling had taken on Alice's middle name: Mina.
Mina tormented her parents throughout her childhood, making their lives a living hell. That is, until the King and Queen hired a nursemaid by the name of Consuelo. In her youth, Consuelo had been a renowned adventurer. She was immediately able to recognize Mina for the Changeling she was. Rather than expose Mina, she cared for the young Fey like her own daughter. She fed Mina tinctures that would suppress her more chaotic fey nature and, with her added guidance, Mina slowly became a well-studied, intelligent, and competent leader worthy of one day taking the crown of Astoria.
During the wedding of a minor Fey Lord --Prospero the King of Pixies-- The Lady of the White Well encountered Mina for the first time. This was how she realized what the hags had done to get Alice to her. She became weary of the day Alice and Mina would cross paths, and swore an oath to herself that she would do everything in her power to prevent that from happening.
A few weeks before Alice and Mina's 18th birthday, Consuelo the nursemaid fell ill. Unable to apply the tinctures, Mina began reverting back to her old nature as a Hexblood Eloquence Bard. By this time, Mina herself had long forgotten her Changeling origins. As she began her transformation, she sequestered herself in her room. Rumors quickly spread that the Crown Princess of Astoria was sick with some unknown disease.
The rumors eventually reached Alice. Hearing about the Astorian princess, Alice felt an echo of a long forgotten memory. On her 18th-birthday, she had a particularly vicious argument with The Lady of the White Well. In a bout of rebellion, Alice grabbed her twin swords and her bow and snuck out of the palace, determined to visit the Astorian Princess. Imagine her surprise when she discovered her Changeling doppelganger staring back at her. Memories rushing back to both of them, they eventually came to the agreement that they preferred their lives as they were. Alice much preferred the freedom of the Fey Wilds and the nurture of the Lady of the White Well, while Mina truly believed that, as queen, she could steer Astoria down a better path than her father had. Alice decided to help Mina remain human and take the Astorian crown, while Mina agreed to make sure the King and Queen never learned of their real daughter's whereabouts. And so Alice set off on a quest to find a rare elixir that will help Mina remain human without the need for Consuelo's tinctures.
Chaparral, a Ranger that takes care of the City Folk when they travel ...
He was raised near the frontiers near the Wood Elven Realm and believed he would become one of the guardians of the Kingdom, keeping the wilderness and the Wildness away from the domesticated lands. He enjoyed living on the frontiers and away from civilization, but as civilization expanded he realized only a thin band of wilderness existed where he could live as he chose, and would have to fight to keep it that way, so becoming a Ranger was his only choice. Some of his friends chose other careers, and a few of these chose Ranger. They however, wished to be scouts and guides for the army, which involved living among the troops often. But Chaparral didn't want this for himself. He enjoyed nature more than that. But being a Druid wasn't his calling either. He enjoyed hunting and living in the forest, and wasn't interested in being a "tree farmer" as he jokingly referred to Druids.
His best friend growing up was Marcato, who became a Bard. And being a Bard, Marcato traveled in certain "circles" and was noticed for his talents by a nobleman. They became friends and he was adopted into a small close group of men of means although Marcato was not from this strata of society. He did however, have the right sort of manners and the talent as a musician to "run with that crowd."
So one of the young men in this group was the son of a titled lord, a man that ranked high enough that this Paladin would become a Baron one day. The Paladin was charged with going to visit another region of the Realm, where is father held little sway, so he could develop his skills for dealing with other noblemen before he was installed as a Baron himself. The Paladin chose his best friend, a Cleric, and Marcato to accompany him on this trip. Marcato persuaded him to ask for Chaparral to be their wilderness guide, and Chaparral accepted with some reservations. He wouldn't be enjoying his life in the forest in solitude, but he understood this would be short lived and then he could begin his intended life with the benefit of the connections he would make on this trip.
So Chaparral is now accompanying a small party into the northern provinces and serving as their guide in the wilderness and sometimes their lackey in the towns. He is glad this won't last very long. But in about six weeks has has risen to level 5 and fought monsters he never knew existed. And he has faced down things that would have killed him except for his new friends. So maybe there is more to life than sleeping to the sound of bugs and frogs and waking to the sound of birds and hearing a deer approach before they know you are there.

Nice sounds like someone has played the thief games. You know thief 1,2, or 3.(just like Indiana jones) a great franchise that stopped when it should have.

Really wow it totally sounded like a reference. Especially the Theif II The (metal age) where they have vine arrows. Actually the games are quite old and you need to patch them to play on modern machines but I've got it on steam. GOG might be better. so its not surprising that it wasn't actually a reference. If your curious I unfortunately cannot recommend thief 4 (2014 ..... really wow I am old).
the main character is Garret. He is clearly a ranger/ rouge multiclass. He can Pass without a trace, use vine and moss arrows. Is highly knowledgeable about specific enemies. He summons exploding frogs to his aid on occasion. and He hangs out with a druid that tried to kill him once. he tries to save both civilization and nature holding a balance between the two.
Dragonheart Started on Earth as a martial artist, Survival Camper and trained Geologist. After arguing rules with a Dungeon Master in 1979 he found himself at the back end of a party of Orcs attacking the characters he had been playing. He demonstrated what he would do to the DM and explained his background. After surviving the encounter he found himself a level 3 monk/level 3 ranger switch class human. He has been playing (adventuring) ever since. Since his player moved frequently he became a world walker very early in his career. Over the next several years he rose to level 17 as a ranger finishing off with the fighting of a series of hill, frost and fire giants then descending into the Underdark to deal with the drow. This sent him and his party into the DemonWeb Pits where they found themselves facing Lolth. DH was off to one side and when Lolth killed off the rest of the party he shot an arrow of slaying at her head and surprising everyone (including the DM) he killed her with one shot (he made 10 rolls of 1% or 5% in a row). Since he was the only one still alive the Deific energies entered his body and started to convert him into a god. In 5e stats he would be a Level 3 Kensai/level 17 Horizon Walker with a number of extra skills and knowledges.

For a long time now, in a galaxy far away have I tried to think about what would make the best Jedi, in the D&D system. I have fantasied to create a Ranger Female Githzerai for a while and recently it became reality. In a nutshell, she is a multiclass Horizon walker/ psi Warrior. I know why not Gloom Stalker? it's for the backstory and to fit better with your typical space traveler Githzerai. It's obviously not the best synergy. IE. I already have high DEX and WIS. Perhaps the Psi Warrior which require a good INT as well, isn't the natural choice, never the less it works really well. I use the force like a Jedi knight, I can move object and toss them at enemy. I have sound effect to play when I strike with my glowing sword. We're a couple months into a campaign, so far I find myself to be a jack of all trade, and very efficient fighter/ archer and I'm so excited to see where this will lead.
Hello. I have the beginning of an idea for a Ranger. What do you think?
One day, a green dragon went to sleep in his lair. She thought it was only for a short time, but actually a couple of centuries passed.
When she awoke, she found most of her forest gone and a city built above her lair (that luckily was not found. Same for the hoard).
As the lair and the hoard were safe, her first impulse was not to kill everybody. Instead she established herself as a personality of note in the city, set on gainig control of it while rebuilding the forest.
The Ranger was found by the dragon (or by her agents) and brought into her service.
Frokis "Frostslayer" Kalagiano Is a Goliath Ranger/Gloom Stalker who earned is nicname from his tribal leader for placing an 3 arrows deep into the skull of a Frostgiant who had snowmadness and attacked the Goliath village. Since that time has been sent into the frozen tundra near 10 towns to hunt food to feed the village as well as find the reason for the never ending winter in the Rim of Frost campaign.
His favored terrain is artic and he leads his party through blizards and avolancies, fridged deathly cold temps as the search for the reason this reagion has gone from cold artic land to a never ending frozen land.
Frostslayer will eventually add some levels of warrior and use the antiant giant knowlege of Rune Carving.
My current Ranger is Legion, a druidic construct (warforged) created as a forest guardian. When it is not needed it is inert in the form of a vaguely skeletal tree with a rune-carved menhir stone buried in its "rib cage". When the forest is threatened a swarm of forest spirits awakens Legion to defend it.
Interestingly when the forest was cut down for use in the construction of a Spelljammer vessel, the spirits did not awaken Legion, instead the builders saw the strangely shaped tree and chose to use it for the ship's figurehead, while the forest spirits hid themselves within the woodwork… and waited.
Deep into a long voyage, the figurehead of the ship suddenly awakened to engage a mysterious figure after they crashed to the deck. But it wasn't until it fought the Aasimar Barbarian to a stalemate that they realised they were both there to fight a greater threat…
Legion is a Swarmkeeper Ranger with a glaive and Polearm Master, making it pretty damned nasty in combat, especially with it able to shunt itself away using Gathered Swarm when an enemy is too close (and potentially allowing it to setup more reaction attacks), it also sometimes uses the Gathered Swarm push/pull with thorn whip (Druidic Warrior) to pull enemies into reach (my DM allows the reaction attack in this case). Its a lot of fun to play as.
Also the only thing it can say in common is "We Are Legion" – yes I'm 100% using it as a Groot rip-off, though it wasn't originally created for this Spelljammer campaign, but it's been very funny to try and communicate only through inflection and timing.

Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.
His name is Gak, he likes playing in the mud with his all time buddy Umbra (the smallest worg pup in the litter.) And Robby (He thinks it's a penguin. 🤔). He saved his village from a bandit raid, and realized he could go forth and beat the crap out of more fun monsters, yeah!! So he left the village and is now looking to have some fun.
A ranger by the name of Blitz, who was born in the undercity, born in the dark, molded by it but still retained the morals of any good man. Came into contact with a certain powerful warlord who taught him how to fight and hunt. Now serves as an independent monster hunter who mostly resides in the underdark, most commonly seen in the Northdark or Old Shanatar. However, he often goes to the surface on large abberation or monstrosity contracts.
Despite his rough upbringing he is surprisingly laid back and aloof at times knowing when to cheer up the room when needed, it's often hard at times to even believe that the ranger grew up in the underdark. However, the underdark will always effect any entity, whether they think so or not. Blitz's fame quickly grew as an urban legend taking out hordes of abberations, undeads and ghoulish fiends that would threaten unweary travellers or innocent pedestrians on the outskirts of villages.
However, despite his skills and aptitude for long distance archery and stealth it still wasn't enough to protect everyone nor was he strong enough to fight any higher end entity. Until he met a wood elf ranger named Talulica. Where he learned to hone his skills further and train in the proficiencies he lacked, with time he eventually picked up a learning for the ways of the Gloomstalker ranger. Using his knowledge and upbringing to his advantage he was able to prove one of the most efficient of gloomstalkers utilising the dark as it was another limb to him.
Now he simply wonders from kingdom, to village, to outpost to cave in search of abberants or contracts for hire. Despite all his skills, he does dream of simply having an adventure with other warriors, to feel the sense of camaraderie .
Often says the catchphrase: “Can’t have shit in the underdark”
(Sadly i'm not really a good artist or know any programs or to illustrate how they look)
Felix Cloudwalker, Snow Leopard Tabaxi Horizon Walker, 15th level. He hails from Ice Peak, a cold, mountainous island in far Northwest Faerun, in the Sea of Ice. There is a shifting, planar portal at the summit of Ice Peak. The Cloudwalker Leap inhabits the summit, and all the snow leopards play a part in protecting Faerun from planar incursions. They tend to be druids and rangers, and collaborate with the Goliath barbarians against what comes from Beyond.
Felix is a ghost with a Dragonwing Longbow, and uses Feline Agility, Haste, Distant Strike and the odd Misty Step to go full Nightcrawler across the battlefield. From his time on the ice, he has resilient, Constitution. (9 lives).
He earned his longbow (+1d6 radiant) from a magical golden stag that he chased down while hunting, and couldn’t bring himself to kill because of its beauty and the artful nature of the chase.
Felix has Defense fighting style, a healthy disdain for authority, and a loyalty only to the Cloudwalker Leap, and his party. (A Leap is a group of leopards. I have learned a lot about snow leopards. The most elusive predator on our planet, lives in the Himalayas, and is sadly endangered. After I made the character, I read up, and I now donate to help study and save these magnificent cats. There aren’t that many left.)
Felix was Plane Shifted to the City of Brass on the Plane of Fire by a Dao, and fought in the pits for a year until he made his way back to Faerun, whilst only a few weeks had passed for his compatriots. He has been slightly smoldering ever since.
His brother, Oscar (yes, we went there) is a 15th level Tabaxi Drakewarden. (INTRODUCING TWO RANGERS!) He now can ride his flying, Large, drake in combat, and wields a Lance. They also share a nasty once a day 10d6 breath weapon. Since the drake has a strength 16, and recently sized up to large, it can carry 540 pounds… Felix and Oscar travel light, carry the bare minimum and live on goodberries, so the total payload with gear is 500 lbs.
Felix used leatherworking tools to attach a braided leather handle to his smoldering studded leather, at the nape of his neck. Oscar rides the drake, the drake grabs Felix with a claw. They cast Pass Without Trace and fly into town with Flight of the Valkyries (very quietly) playing in their heads, and swoop in like nasty, snow leopard and shock troops.
They think, fight and act as a unit, and they follow and protect Godsend, a 15th level warforged paladin, who has a collection of dragon skulls 10 deep, and, let’s face it, doesn’t need protecting. He is our moral compass, and we are his attack cats.
Despite their snowy upbringing, Oscar usually chooses a Black Drake, rather than the cold, conformist white drake, because Felix and Oscar love metal*, wear smoldering studded leather and f*ck on the first date. Acid is the most metal of breath weapons - I hear you, fire, shush, I spent a year on the plane of fire, and even Justin Bieber is using pyro these days; it’s played out- plus, Metallica, Spinal Tap and Jay Z all released LEGENDARY albums called “The Black Album.” I rest my case. Yes, yes, Ride The Lightning, I hear you, Blue. Overruled. GO LAY DOWN!
*zap* I SAID, LAY DOWN!
After returning from the Plane of Fire, Felix and his companions successfully sent Tiamat back to the Abyss. That was spicy.
After a year passed, he is being called back to action this next weekend to fend off another planar incursion from the Abyss.
Felix spends many a sleepless night, obsessively grooming, wondering just what to do with his bonus action- SO MANY CHOICES-, and on exactly which thing he will concentrate. He also laments knowing only nine spells, and is considering taking Twighlight Cleric, Fighter (probably Eldritch) or Assassin for his levels after ASI at 16.
*A snow leopard, riding his flying drake, wielding a lance, while his litter mate dangles from the talon underneath, waiting to blink into the midst, raining arrows? More metal than British Steel.
I can’t put his full backstory here (it’s long), but here’s a bit: Jack was created a good 35,024 years ago on the planet of Ghean (yes. I know. Old characters have always been my bane as a GM, but it worked with the concept I had and my GM approved it). The core idea is that he had to flee his home because of an insane deity, Ruin, (yes, based on the Brandon Sanderson Mistborn Ruin) and travel the universe. He had some crazy adventures but eventually sought refuge on the planet of Dunia (My GM’s homebrew world). He is still hiding from Ruin’s agents, but he’s begun to find friends and improve himself. Ah yes, side note, Jack is mildly insane. He is missing one of his augmented spikes, metal spikes that keep him stable. He actually was able to create one recently, but as of last session there were some… setbacks…

He will stop at nothing to save his lands. He has a whole mess of a linkage, including demons, angels, tabaxi, humans, a wood elf, his Tiefling father Calan the Druid of Mount Wavior, and at least 3/4 tabaxi mother Qualinth of the Highmounts (Mount Wavior, Clan Wavior, Upper Conclave)
Will continue soon :)

I am Savara Moss, a sea elf ranger. I hail from the northern coasts of Erjor and I am looking for adventure!
Frak, the dimension-hopping goblin Horizon Walker.
Nothing too complicated; just a goblin who found a portal one day, fell through the map, and now has the ability to glitch through reality.
Pure chaotic fun.
Gak, the Myst Rider: Beast master https://ddb.ac/characters/42689219/4gTb6Y
Hello, 16th level, you had me at sharpshooter.
https://ddb.ac/characters/67586085/6JaGu0
Felix spends many a sleepless night, obsessively grooming, wondering just what to do with his bonus action- SO MANY CHOICES-, and on exactly which thing he will concentrate. He also laments knowing only nine spells, and is considering taking Twighlight Cleric, Fighter (probably Eldritch) or Assassin for his levels after ASI at 16.
*A snow leopard, riding his flying drake, wielding a lance, while his litter mate dangles from the talon underneath, waiting to blink into the midst, raining arrows? More metal than British Steel.
Have I got the character for you…
Jack, 8th level Plasmoid Gloom Stalker Ranger
