I think either has upside, but ultimately I went Battlemaster to help set up extra sneak attacks with Battlemaster maneuvers.
The only other thing I would say is wanting Int for for the EK starts getting into MAD territory in my opinion.
it depends on what you're taking from EK honestly. A lot of the abjuration spells do not care about Int. Careful picks with your non abj and evo spells also are useful and do not care about your int score. the spells that primarily care about int are blasty, and blasting spells are really not what the EK is best at.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
Yeah, having time to digest and I went back over battlemaster and it sang to me like it did when I was piecing it together and it does seem so appealing. Riposte is just so good. Disarming also super duper handy. I have time to decide since I'm leveling Rogue to 5, so I'll see when I get there.
If you don't take at least 5 fighter levels I would suggest going into a full-caster instead to get more spells at little loss. As a swashbuckler I would considder warlock (hexblade 5) or sorcerer.
Yeah, we already have a Warlock Tiefling and a Hexblade Kenku, I was planning to go Rogue 15/Fighter 5 for this build and wanted him to be a slippery pokey combatant. I have kinda decided to stick with Battlemaster though because it will fill a really big void in our group and it seems like it'd be super fun.
Rogue/fighter is a great combo with just about any subclass of each because of the synergy between abilities.
Eldritch knight/rogue is good for the obvious sword coast cantrips, as well as the shield spell. Over the long run I don't think you'd want to take EK past level 8.
Samurai/rogue with either two weapon fighting or archery fighting style allows for guaranteed advantage on some attacks.
Arcane Archer/Rogue gives the rogue a new ace in the hole with some arcane shots that use your INT for your spellcasting DC.
Battlemaster/rogue is always fun. If you have multi attack then use commander strike with another rogue, and now you're REALLY nuking the enemy.
Champion is good if you have the ability to generate advantage.
Cavalier might be situationally good. Purple dragon knight doesn't really add enough as a subclass.
Honestly, you have plenty of options that could be fun for what you want to do.
Maybe dead thread but, booming blade war caster reaction with sneak attack is possibly nicest little out of turn combo I've come across. I'm not 1000% sure it's legitimate but my DM has allowed it although gotten wise to it. Unless someone or something is feared....

Curious if you have any ideas for that build?
