Any insight on how to optimize this multiclass? I'm relatively new to D&D, but have really enjoyed the experience! Flipping through the Players Handbook, I stumbled upon an idea about a character I want to build. For lore I believe the Changeling to be the race I like, +2 Charisma goes well with SB and spending the +1 in Dex provides synergy with the needed 13 in Dex to multiclass. I imagine going 9 in SB and 11 in HW. My thinking is the combination of sneak attack, rakish audacity, extra attack(s), planar warrior, and distant strike for the ability to apply damage and blink from one enemy to another, seems like great fun!
My concerns lie in the uncertainty of which class to begin with and at what point to multiclass for best optimization🤔.
Again, any insight or educational advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

To multiclass into or out of ranger you need both 13 dex AND 13 wis. But in general Rogue/Ranger is a great combo regardless of the archetype. The synergy between Swashbuckler and horizon walker is kind lf lacking though. Swashbuckler is more CHA based for the initiative boost, and if you can blink to another enemy without taking an opportunity attack then the greatest strength of swashbuckler is gone.
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I noticed that they are not the best classes to combine together. I would like to be more melee and am leaning toward just getting some points in fighter. Truthfully im unsure, but my adventurous side keeps thinking of different things that could work together.

I really like the swashbuckler but it meshes better with something like swords bard due to the CHA bonus to initiative. With ranger needing WIS it ends up either being less effective than it could be overall due to multiple ability dependency (MAD)
Swashbuckler is kind of the go-to for melee rogues because of fancy footwork, but melee rogue can still work without it. For Horizon Walker there's good synergy with arcane trickster because horizon walker is a ranger class you'll use more spells with. I think scout would be pretty cool with HW as well.
Monster hunter/inquisitive is a combo I have and it's really fun. Find all the traps, spot the monster's weaknesses, and you don't really lose much in sneak attack progression because the monster hunter ability to add a D6 to damage.
Gloomstalker/assassin is the go-to for snipers due toi hiding in the shadows, and the +WIS to initiative is amazing. I could see a melee gloomstalker also being really good depending on how well your DM deals with the lighting situation. Some DMs are very careful about stating that a cave is dark, others will tell you that the cave 200 feet below the surface has bright light in it without any torches or luminous moss.

Are you intending to go more melee or ranged?
