Hey all. I have a 6th level divine soul, about to level up. The way the party is built, it looks like I need to take on the roles of both primary blaster AND primary healer. Long story shorter, we're heavy on stealth and meatheads, and the only other full caster is an artificer who will be taking on more battlefield control duties. We are not an optimized party, to say the least.
Anyway, I am looking at aura of vitality to take as a spell. What I am wondering is whether a life cleric dip is worthwhile after I have that spell in hand. (I have wisdom 13 so it works.) The issue is that most of the other life cleric stuff isn't useful to me; wearing armor isn't a big deal, I don't use weapons, I already have cure wounds and access to the cleric spell list. But being able to tack on 5 hp every round I have aura of vitality up is a NICE boost.
My other thought was to ignore the dip and take prayer of healing instead with the understanding that I would not be able to cast it in combat, but if I upcast it, that's a nice boost for everyone after the fight, especially with the empowered healing trait that divine souls get.
Aura of vitality really shines with out of combat healing and will massively out perform Prayer of healing if your a Life cleric. That said I would have a chat with your DM as they might not view it as an option to take, as it is a spell that got added into the cleric's spell list as an option in Tasha's so you would normally have to take 5 levels in Cleric to get access to it.
Even without trying to get the most out of Aura of vitality a Life cleric dip gives you rather a lot as it would get you 3 cantrips and 2 prepared spells from the cleric list (your fighters will love you for bless) best of all you get heavy / medium armour so you don't need to worry about mage armour ever again and potentially giving you more options for blasting. That said maybe you need some extra short rests to get some out of combat healing; your artificer might be able to prepare rope trick to give you all safe space.

Thank you amc. I didn't really care so much about armor, but there is benefit to not having to burn a 1st level spot on mage armor every time. I'll have to take that into consideration. DM is cool with aura of vitality being on the cleric list, so no issues with that.
With the empowered healing trait, is prayer of healing as good as, or maybe better than aura of vitality?
I can spend one sorcery point to reroll any die once. Well, with prayer of healing (2d8), that reroll applies to everyone in the party. If I turn a 1 into a 7, that's one sorcery point that leads to 36 extra points of healing. With aura of vitality, I can reroll but it only helps one character at a time.
Personally I think aura of vitality is the way to go. For a few reasons really:
You might not be able to find time to cast Prayer of Healing as it takes ten minutes. I tend to find if you can rest safely for ten minutes you might be able to short rest. However I can usually find the time to cast aura of vitality after a fight.
I sometimes feel that the healing from prayer of healing can be wasted, it might just be games that I play in but usually its only a few of the party members that are injured enough to need healing. So the way that you can pick where the healing goes is very valuable with aura of vitality.
Finally aura of vitality with either life cleric or extended metamagic is bonkers. Speaking as someone who DM'd a group that went up to level 17 with a life cleric who took aura of vitality and the metamagic adept feat at level 12, I'm not really sure you need both as one of those is such a huge boost.

I wonder if the fact that a Divine Soul Sorcerer does not get access to the TCoE Additional Cleric Spells is an oversight. On one hand, it says that it is a cleric class feature, but on the other hand, it says that it adds those spells to the cleric spell list. The Divine Soul Sorcerer gets access to the cleric spell list, so if a supplemental rulebook adds to that list, shouldn't the Divine Soul Sorcerer get access to those added spells?
dndbeyond currently does not list those spells as available for a Divine Soul Sorcerer, even with Tasha's optional Sorcerer rules enabled, but it's also weird about other spell features and doesn't mean that it isn't actually a bug rather than implemented as intended.
As an aside, I saw someone suggest that the easiest way to create expanded spell lists for the non-Tasha's Sorcerer subclasses was to simply raid the Cleric Domains for their Domain Spell lists.
Divine Soul Sorcer - Life Domain
Draconic - Light Domain
Storm -Tempest Domain
Shadow - Trickery Domain (?)
Wild Magic - Nature Domain (?)

Follow up question that just occurred to me:

Yes, that is a bit of an oversight.
I guess the only thing we can do is create spells, duplicating those from Tasha's, and putting Sorcerer in the classes that have access to them.
Or create a custom background and add them to the background spell list.
The Custom Background is the easiest.
