I originally played a Divine Soul 11/ Hexblade 2 in my first serious times playing the game (I asked first, and I couldn’t figure out coffelocking if I tried). The main ability of a sorcerer is quickened spell, but I already have animate objects and spiritual weapon to occupy my bonus actions. Also, I was given an animated shield, so I don’t need the metamagic that lets you do stuff without certain components. So… what should I be doing?
It got so complicated and I felt like I wasn’t using it to my basic potential (bot the broken potential of coffeelocking) that I eventually just switched to a Celestial Warlock figuring I could get more out of (more) Eldritch Invocations. So far its’ been ok, and I know neither Divine Soul nor Hexblade is even in the new rules, so should I even bother?
P.S. In case it wasn't obvious, my table is still using the original 5e rules.
Well, you can play the Divine Soul and Hexblade with the new PHB. They just haven't been updated yet, but the book itself is very clear about backwards compatibility.
That said, aside from getting a lot more spell slots than a warlock would, sorcerer levels help a lot.
Specifically with metamagic, there's a lot of things you can do. The one that lets you cast spells without certain components (Subtle Spell) isn't just so you can hold a shield and cast spells. It also allows you to cast spells without people noticing, which is huge. Of course, it depends on which spells you have and if it'd help to cast them without people knowing, but that's a huge buff. And if you're fighting a spellcaster, they can't counterspell you if they don't see you casting a spell.
Twinned Spell is extremely powerful. That's why it got nerfed in the new PHB. But since you're playing using the 2014 PHB, then you can use the stronger version. It basically lets you cast 2 spells at the same time, concentrate on both at the same time, but only use one spell slot. Suggestion is a really powerful spell, but you can only target one creature. Well, now you can target two at the same time. Haste is another good example, and Hexblades can make good use of it. (Also, Suggestion works really well with Subtle Spell, too).
Careful Spell is great for spells like Hypnotic Pattern when your allies are in the way.
It depends on which spells you have and how you use them, but metamagic is super good. Not every metamagic option is great, of course, but as Divine Soul 11 you have 3, if I remember correctly, and the 3 I just said are really useful.
From what you described, it sounds more like only using Metamagic when you need it rather than all of the time. Perhaps I have been looking at this wrong.
i guess my next question would be “What would my 4th Metamagic be?” I tend to layout my builds all the way to level 20 so i can just copy the character and adjust the copies level to be ready for anything.
Metamagic is definitely not an "all the time" feature, unless you get LRs ever other encounter or so. Sorcery Points are a finite resource for a reason. It does seem that with your setup, Quickened (while very powerful on the whole) is lower on your particular tier list for your character. The previous post on other good MMs is spot on. 2014 Twinned is damn-near broken in terms of efficiency.
We often do have like one encounter each game, but a build that exploits that doesn’t seem very fun or efficient. i think I have a better understanding now! Thank you!
For Metamagics i think I’m going Twinned and Subtle for level 3, Careful for level 10 and heightened for level 17. Does that sound good?

I think it sounds good. Heightened is pretty good, just really expensive (they fixed that in the 2024 PHB). But by level 17 you have enough sorcery points to afford it, so I think it works.

So you would suggest dropping quickened spell?
interesting…

Thank you for the advice!
Any other ideas are still welcome.

You should also consider taking the metamagic adept feat for 2 more metamagic options.
