As the Title Might Suggest, I need Help building a Sorceror (I have never done it before so... I would appreciate the help...)
What I know I want it to be:
A Goliath Sorceror (Just the thought of a Goliath doing Fantasia Magic seems Funny to me... But not AS funny as my Loxodon Rouge... (you read that right a LOXODON ROUGE) the whole gimmick is that he is a Joke... Inside the game and outside too... Like Imagine an Elephant Sneaking upon you as it Ccrashes through the- Now I am getting sidetracked...)
A score of 14 or 15 for Constitution (Due to the way that the HP goes so... when you level up you get 6 HP every Level)
After some careful deliberation, I have decided to scrap some of what I said...
I want help to find spells to make a Changling Sorceror (With the Clockwork Soul Sorcerous Origin...). The only restriction is I DEFINITELY want the Thunder-Clap Cantrip (Makes it sound like a really loud clock chime), & the Sleep Spell (Time for Bed... Get it?)
What level of character are you building? If you want Thunderclap and Sleep, then take them. That will leave you with 1 more spell to pick at level one. I'd recommend Mage Armor or Shield.
Ok, you can pick 3 spells of 1st and/or 2nd level (because you want Sleep). You'll get 4 more from your sorcerous origin (alarm, protection from evil and good, heat metal, and find traps). Given all of that, I'd recommend picking Mage Armor, Shield, and Shatter. If you prefer an offensive option over Shield, Chromatic Orb or Magic Missile are good spells.
As far as cantrips go, you'll have 3 to choose (other than Thunderclap). I'd recommend Fire Bolt (or another ranged attack option), a utility cantrip like Mage Hand, Minor Illusion, or Mold Earth, and perhaps another melee option for single-target damage (Shocking Grasp being the best option).
So in total, I would have Mage Armor, Darkness, Sleep, & Shatter, and for cantrips; Minor Illusion, Thunder-Clap, Dancing Lights, and Message... (as well as the gained ones from Clockwork Soul) One last question, What would the best way to play this Character in Fights (since he is more Utility)?
Take at least one ranged combat cantrip instead of Dancing Lights, and rely on that. Use heat metal against armored baddies. Your metamagic picks can also help with combat. I'd recommend Quickened Spell, Empowered Spell, or Heightened Spell.
I'd probably trade ray of frost for shocking grasp so if something gets in your face, you can try to take their reaction away with your attack, then move away. For ranged attack, a crossbow does better damage than ray of frost does until level 5.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
I'd say, for combat cantrips, take Shocking Grasp and Chill Touch. Shocking Grasp gives you a lightning melee attack that's D8 up to 4D8 damage, and Chill Touch gives you a 120 foot range attack that does the same thing with necrotic damage. Fire bolt has more damage (D10) but fire is more often resisted than necrotic.
Minor Illusion is always nice, and Mage Hand is limited only by your imagination.
Since you want Thunderclap, Thunderclap, Chill Touch, Shocking Grasp, Minor Illusion/Mage Hand.

Partway through the quest for absolute truth.
I need help for a 3rd Level Sorceror And Mage Armor seems like a good Idea...

And those RANGED Cantrips would be?
Fire Bolt or Ray of Frost come to mind.
Partway through the quest for absolute truth.
So then It would come to; (Right?)
Cantrips: Minor Illusion, Thunder-Clap, Ray of Frost, and Message.
1st Level: Alarm, Mage Armor, Protection from Evil and Good, Sleep
2nd Level: Darkness, Find Traps, Heat Metal, Shatter,
Looks good! Have fun with your Clockwork Soul!
Partway through the quest for absolute truth.
Thanks!!
