Anyone have a good idea to a backstory for a shadow sorcerer who serves the Raven Queen? I haven't chosen my race yet, but I was thinking of Shadar Kai, even though I am a little unsure how to roleplay one when they lack emotions? I still want to contribute to the roleplay of campaign.
Shadar Kai would be perfect since some of them work for the Raven Queen, so you could say that your character may have been chosen by the Raven queen to do a very specific task/s and you were sent to the material plane to deal with it. Of course per the nature of the Shadar Kai (i don't have the book with me atm) your character took a mask to keep their race and identity hidden from the rest since Shadar Kai do look abnormal in comparison to other races as well as looking older within the material realm (needs confirmation because this may how they look like in the shadowfell and not the material realm). Your character prefers being pragmatic rather than letting emotions guide their decisions to better serve the Raven Queen and prevent any doubt in her commands and be the perfect instrument for achieving her commands or simply the whole idea of emotions are alien to your character.
Now as for the Task, it could be:
- a missing agent of the Shadar Kai who was sent on a mission but never returned
- perhaps to eliminate a certain undead
- recover/destroy an ancient relic
- Find the Raven Queen's mask which was stolen by an unknown person or entity for reasons. (if she wears mask in the setting you are playing)
- Orcus is planning something catastrophic and your character was gifted with the potential to be one of the needed pieces to stop the demon lord however, you need to become stronger in order to deal with the threat.
These are the ideas i can come up with at the moment hope it helped!
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Born under the watch of something from the furthest corners of the far realms.... It knows all.... it sees all... and it asks: "What is it that you want to see?"... and my answer is... ALL"
When you come up with a backstory, make sure that it's appropriate for the level that you're starting out the campaign at. Don't have too heroic of a backstory for a character that's starting out at level 1. You don't want to have a long list of trials and adventures that your character survived if you're just level 1. But if you're starting at level 10, your backstory needs to have a long list of achievements and heroic deeds.

I'd love to hear all of your ideas!
