I was struck with a bit of inspiration for a build and wanted to get down my thoughts.
This will be a swift, dancing dervish that fights with a Double-Bladed Scimitar. Eberron content warning. The Revenant Blade feat will turn it into a finesse weapon so that the build can remain lithe and agile.
For species we're going Elf. Any Elf will do, really, but I like Valenar Wood Elf for the extra movement speed to really drive home how fast we are. Valenar Elf is the most appropriate to the lore of our weapon, but this can be whatever fits a desired character theme. +2 Dex and +1 Cha from custom origin will help build a starting ability line up of 8/17/14/8/10/16.
The subclass will be Genie Lock with a Djinni Patron and Pact of the Blade. We will be as swift as the winds our patron holds dominion over.
I'm thinking single class to unlock revenant blade, extra attack (thirsting blade), flight and warlock spellcasting as quickly as possible. I don't think delaying anything is worth it here, although I'd love to hear ideas about dips anyways.
Key Invocations: Improved Pact Weapon (can now switch between DBS and longbow as needed. Shaping the weapons from thin air feels so good thematically), Armor of Shadows (swirling wind. Combines with revenant blade for 19 AC), Thirsting Blade, Eldritch Mind
Feats/ASIs: (4) Revenant Blade [+1 dex], (8) +2 Dex, (12) No point thinking this far
Elven Accuracy is a consideration of course, especially because of how well it combines with greater invisibility, but I don't know how I feel about taking the second half-feat and being left at 19 dex.
I think there's potential here. I've always loved the agile dervish swordsman archetype and mixing it with the lore of the Djinni just seems perfect. I think the mechanics are really solid too and seemlessly lend themselves to the thematics of a potential character. Curious to see what people think. Any ideas on the build concept?
Throw a few levels of Barbarian at it... Rage doesn't have to be rage. It can be focus, or trance, or whatever you want to skin it as. The other abilities could match up perfectly with your Dervish concept.
Booming Blade absolutely fits this character concept. Unfortunately awkward with thirsting blade, but it could definitely be an option before level 5 and get switched out at some point. And whether or not BB is on there, I absolutely want Mobile. I was thinking that if the build were to be sketched out to 12, then mobile would be the pick, but now I'm like the idea of Mobile at 8 and putting off 20 dex until level 12. It just gives the build so much tactically when combined with the flight speed.
A barbarian route is interesting. Not something I had considered but could definitely fit the concept quite well. I don't know about trying to make a strength based build work. The stats would be really hard to work with the MC and I like the idea of flavoring spirit shroud as either a winter wind, or cold desert night wind, which the barb approach gets in the way of with rage.
Crazy enough, my last throwdown build that got stuck in development had some similar ideas. I think the "Eldritch Smite" invocation is nothing to scoff at. Especially not if you'd multiclass into something like Swordbard(for more spellslots). Two things that combine well with a revenant blade are Rogue (it is a DEX based weapon so it is elligible for Sneak Attack) and Fighter (Great weapon Fighting and Action Surge).
