Two spell slots that recover at a short rest is the epitome of utility. Who cares if wizards learn 2x the amount of spells warlocks learn. Who cares that there are 315 wizard spells compared to the warlock’s 116. So what if wizards can permanently learn new spells with spell scrolls.
Anybody can cast Eldritch blast with magic initiate. That is a feat. Ted the barbarian can cast Eldritch blast. if Ted picks hex as his 1st level spell he can cast Eldritch blast just as good as Frank the warlock. In fact Ted can cast Eldritch blast better than Frank if he chooses the storm herald feat. At level three Ted can deal a maximum of 22 damage if he chooses sea for his storm’s aura. If frank also casts hex he can only deal a maximum of 19 damage.
consider the following eldritch blast has a range of 120 feet take Eldritch Spear and Agonizing Blast as a Eldritch Invocations to make that 300 feet and add Charisma then take spell sniper at level 4 to double that so at level 4 eldritch blast has a range of 600 feet and deals 1d10+Charisma

Ridiculousness of the argument aside that Ted would take magic initiate to begin with, your argument fails on the use of Invocations, particularly Agonizing and repelling blasts. Ted would be limited, because Ted can't take Invocations over the long term. Ted is a cool idea at level 3, Ted might be wondering about his life choices at level 10.
But that's not why Warlocks are played. Warlocks, like bards and rogues, are played for diversity and flexibility. Ted might have a temporarily powerful EB, but Ted isn't likely to have a high charisma. Bards are a great class, btw, and I'm not knocking them, but they fall short in terms of total damage and magical power compared to Warlocks, depending on how they progress. They do have Superior buffing abilities and make somewhat better support characters.
But I've learned that characters evolve and advance with party needs and not just their own. So, why come in here just to... Do this? It almost feels like you're bored and are looking for a reaction.

That's so untrue. Ted the barbarian can't get agonizing blast to add cha mod to his damage. Ted the barbarian can't get repelling blast to push creatures away with and rearrange the battlefield. Ted the Storm Herald can't concentrate on hex while raging to activate his aura, and the aura is so small that half of his EB attacks will be at disadvantage. Ted the level 3 Barbarian can't use hex or eldritch blast while he's raging so, there goes that idea. he can get d10+d6=16 though when he's not raging and using any class features. meanwhile, frank the warlock made better life choices then Ted the barbarian, and picked up the agonizing blast invocation at level 2, so he gets to add his charisma modifier to his blasts. He's going to hex for d6, get his EB for D10, then add 3 to it for a max of 19. Oh, and Frank the warlock can do that from any range, not from a very precise 10 foot range that Ted the barbarian can.
Frank's probably got a much better charisma with which to use his eldritch blast and definitely smells better than Ted the barbarian, so you know who Sarafina, the smoking hot elf wizard is going home with at night. Sarafina likes intelligent decisions, and Frank made those while Ted did not. Better luck with Grogna, the half-orc beastmaster Ted. Grogna makes poor decisions too.
Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
As a very new member, I don't have a lot to add. However, I will say that, as a wizard, I have easily been the most helpful player in my campaign, out of combat. Ritual casting detect magic, alarm, find familiar is crazy helpful. Then my 4 cantrips (high elf), have been clutch. Mage hand got us out of prison. Prestidigitation and minor illusion have been useful at just about every step of this campaign.
Of course disguise self and charisma are useful. But a clever wizard has a way out of almost any situation.
Wizards are the best casters in the game. That's what they do.
However Warlocks have a great deal of flexibility and can be great all-rounders.
Take your typical Half-Elf Hexblade Bladepact with the Urchin background. Starting stats 8/16/14/10/10/17.
Proficiencies in Perception, Stealth, Sleight of Hand, Investigation, Intimidation, Acrobatics, Thieves' Tools, and Disguise Kit. Take Beguiling Influence at level 2 for Persuasion and Deception.
You're a decent toolbox, let down only by a lack of Expertise. You're a decent melee fighter. You're a decent caster. You're a decent social character too. You're not the pentultimate at any one thing, but you're not far behind the best in your party and you can fill in any gaps that the other characters leave. Need a Face, you're the Face. Need a lock picked, you can do that. Need someone cut into itty bitty pieces? You can do that too.

LOL. I almost spit out my tea...
As a side note, now that the Genie Warlock is moving from UA to legal, Wish is now in the Warlock's repertoire.
I once had a Lv. 1 wizard in my campaign, and he lasted maybe the first turn. Also, both have that one spell that New players will spam, (fireball for wizard, eldritch blast for warlock) and EB is better because of the type of damage it does. A lot of later level things are resistant or immune to fire; whereas force is barely ever. A Warlock generally has more constitution than a Wizard as well. Both can be good, but in my experience the wizard wont last long enough to do much in combat, where it out-spells the Warlock.
I've never had a problem keeping my d6 squishies up, provided the DM doesn't throw a ton of archers at the party at level 1.

Lol says someone who obviously hasn’t played a Barbarian before and has 4 total posts in 2+ years. Storm Aura damage requires rage. You can’t cast spells while raging. Please take your trolling elsewhere.

You have to be within 10 feet of ur enemies *where most wizards shouldn't be
