I would appreciate any help this community can give on building a hexblade around this character concept:
Campaign: Eve of Ruin Level 10 - 20
Ability scores are point buy or SA
Short Background: My character is Timiny Roach, a Half Wood Elf/Halfling youth of about 12. Normaly he is a happy go lucky chap, asks a lot of questions and is a hard worker. He works at his dad's antqiue store in Helms Hold. Long story short: a few years ago Timiny met his best friend, Urixis: The Dark Blade of Hellish Torment, etc.
Timiny is Chaotic Good, the sword is Chaotic Neutral
So that's the character concept. I would like some ideas on the build. I want it to be fun, helpful to the party which consists of a: Paladin, Cleric, Sorc, Fiend Warlock, and me. I think there might be one more and they are also a caster.
Would it be better to stay just Warlock? I was thinking about taking a few Rogue levels to get more skills etc... I could also dip into fighter or sorc, but not really interested in Paladin as I don't think it fits the character(s) The Rogue/Warlock build feels fun, but I don't know if multiclassing is worth it.
Also I am starting with the Alert Feat. Any other feats I might want? Warcaster?
Quick question: Are you allowed the 2024 rules or the OneD&D playtest rules? Because bladelocks are both much better and much more interesting using them.
Thank you for the idea! Since we are going to start at level 10, how would you recommend the level split? I don't think I want to take 2 additional classes; it just gets confusing. Would fighter really add that much besides action surge? I know that is pretty awesome to have but at the cost of sneak attack damage, maybe not.
I am more inclined that the best thing you can do is get to Warlock 12 for lifedrinker as soon as possible. If you go dex and charisma there is little you will get out of multiclassing that Warlock doesn't already provide. The main exceptions is if your build requires a specific fighting style or you want level 1 spell slots or constitution saves. Then 1 level dips in either fighter or sorcerer are excellent.
Premise: Wanted to be a somewhat tanky frontline striker with magic. Always thought Hexblade sounded fun. HATE the limited spell slots.
I did end up with a multiclass build, just to get some extra utility and for the role playing aspect of this specific character.
Start Level 10: Shadar Kai (for the sweet blessings of Raven Queen + Necrotic resist) Paladin lvl 5 Oath of Conquest (access to spiritual weapon! NO Concentration...I love that) Warlock lvl 5 Hexblade (I plan to go the rest of the way with warlock) Pact of the Blade
Magic items: we were given 3 (1 uncommon 1 rare 1 very rare) I took the following: VR -Tome of Leadership (+2 to CHA and raises the cap to 22), - Since nearly all my mojo revoves around this stat I thought it would be the ideal choice. R - Amulet of Health (19 CON) U - Stone of Good Luck (+1 to everything)
Stats with the items are: 10,16,19,8,14,20 with the ability to raise CHA to 22
At my next ASI/Feat option I am wondering what to do there...would you take a feat or pump CHA to 22?
Paladin 6 is a pretty big deal. You may want to work that into your build, if not to start then very soon. Warlock 15 is significant but you may never even get there. Even if you do, it’ll be awhile whereas paladin 6 is right there. It can serve your for significant portion of the character’s playtime instead of only endgame. It’ll give you all the more reason to pump CHA next ASI too.

Unfortunately no, but that is good to know for future.
Ok soooo..

GWM is not a good feat to take until you hit Warlock 3, as you won't be able to attack with Cha using a 2-handed weapon until then.
Agreed, but we are starting at level 10 so it should prove useful.
