My question is simple, why is Warlock the best class?
To me it’s not because it’s a good spell-caster, because it’s lackluster in that area, and it’s not because of Hexblade warlock, even though I love that subclass to death, it’s not even the fact that they get Eldritch Blast. No, warlock is the best because of the effect they can have on the story and because of the fact that there is so many different things you can be with a warlock.
Warlock’s, like clerics, are easy to integrate into a campaign’s story. All you have to do is throw in their patron once in a while and you create memorable moments for that player. To me warlocks are the easiest class for a DM to make stuff for.
Then you have the variability in what they can have. There’s so much they can do as long as you don’t focus everything on Eldritch Blast. If you stop using Eldritch Blast, then you will see this as well. To me it’s only holding warlock back, since everyone thinks it’s their only upside. Yes, if warlock lost its Eldritch Blast, it would be weaker, but that’s ok. D&D isn’t about being the strongest of them all, I mean it can be, but nonetheless. No, D&D is about having fun, and warlock without relying on Eldritch Blast is the most fun I’ve ever had in any role-playing tabletop game ever.
Warlock is the best class, not because it’s strong, but because it’s fun. Not only for the player but also for the DM. So please, try it out. I promise you will not be disappointed as long as you’re looking to have fun.
Oh also I’m biased like really hard since warlock is like my favorite class and I’ve made a LOT of homebrew content for it, like new subclasses, pact boons, and Eldritch Invocations.
So after reading this, please try out warlock, and if you hate it for some reason, tell me why, I want to make warlocks the most fun they can be for my players, and if you all have problems with it then they probably have problems with it to.
I think the warlock is the best caster in the game. Read most fantasy novels, manga, movies etc. Is the spellcaster a dude with 1,000,000 options or is it a dude with like 5 moves that they use for 700 chapters. Not exactly a mage, but look at Naruto, he uses shadow clone jutsu for ages, then he adds in rasengin. Then he has tricks improving both of those for the rest of the story. The other casters in D&D fit one fantasy the D&D spell caster. One of my favorite book series since I was a kid the Myth series by Robert Asprin. Main character can levitate things, create wards, create illusions around people(like change self but enhanced), he can light things on fire, and force field effects. And that is pretty much it for all 10+ novels(the author dies and someone else picked up the novels at some point, not sure exactly which novel). Heck David Eddings the belgairad series, will and the word magic system, you think it, say any word to release the power and anything other than disintegration can happen. Does the main character use anywhere near the D&D variety in spells, nope like 5 maybe 10 if im stretching it effects. Maybe in many series if they need a whatever spell to happen they can pull it off, but then its back t their core X spells.
The warlock style of casting fits the stories told for anything other than D&D better than any other caster in the game. They have a couple go to spells, they use a lot(at will invocations, eldritch blast, their 1 -2 combat spells with their pact magic) and then some niche spells for oh shit we need this.
