So I'm not looking for an optimized overpowered build I'm just curious if it is possible to have a bow as your pact weapon combined with An arcane archer or would the warlock/archer clash too much.
Three levels in Warlock, any patron, Pact of the Blade, Improved Pact Weapon Invocation for a +1 Longbow that doubles as an arcane focus. After that go into Fighter and Arcane Archer.
Obviously max out dex, and then with the +1 pact weapon and the fighting style archery, at level 6 you could have a +11 attack modifier. The first feat you pick needs to be sharpshooter, unless you're a variant human, then you can begin with it. One of its features is that you can take a -5 penalty to hit (which leaves you with +6) and then if you still hit, you deal +15 damage......Potentially, you could put some levels into rogue/assassin for sneak attack and auto crit.......
It's certainly possible to do it, the only issue is you'd be casting your Warlock spells with Charisma, but the DC for your Arcane Archer shots would be based on Intelligence. Mechanically you're probably best off sticking with the minimum 13 in Charisma required for multiclassing with Warlock, and try to stick with Warlock spells that don't require an attack roll or saving throw. Stuff like Armor Of Agathys, Hex, Protection From Evil/Good, etc. You'll probably have to dump Str, and your Wis isn't going to be that great unless you roll really well.
... pact weapons let you use your CHA modifier for damage. No need to worry about DEX...
You still need a minimum of 13 in either Strength or Dexterity in order to multiclass Fighter/Warlock. Then you still need Int for all your Arcane Shot abilities... and Con for obvious reasons.
If you're not planning on wearing heavy armor, use Strength as your dump stat. You get proficiency in Strength saves from starting as Fighter, so dumping that in favor of Dex still gives you a better bonus to the more important saving throw & AC.
This is one of those combos that I would not recommend when using fixed stats, but it can be totally viable depending on your rolled stats.

You don't know what fear is until you've witnessed a drunk bird divebombing you while carrying a screaming Kobold throwing fire anywhere and everywhere.
Right - but you don't need to max out DEX for the attack bonus, since you can use Charisma instead. That was all I meant. It's still definitely a MAD build.
Right, you just need min 13 in one or the other, and might as well go up to 14 Dex to maximize the benefit with medium armor. Even with the benefit from Warlock it's still dependent on three ability scores to function (four if you factor in Con), and that's simply too MAD for a starting array/point buy build. Rolled stats generally make being MAD irrelevant in most cases.

So I rolled my stats and got 18, 17, 16, 14, 12, 9
You're fine. Do whatever you want.

So, I've got a Hexblade 7 / Rogue 3 Swashbuckler that's going to level up soon. Two-handed Katana pact weapon is the go-to for combat, happy to jump up to the front for melee action.
But, we are getting ready to fight a gargantuan foe pretty soon, and in addition to an ASI bump of my CHA to 20, I was half-tempted to take the Agonizing Blast invocation, but... I could do Improved Pact Weapon, and conjure up a +1 Longbow. Agonizing Blast / Eldritch Blast will get me +9 to hit, 1d10 +5 (x2 for levels) Improved Pact Longbow and a Hexblade's Curse would be +9 to hit, 1d8 +5, +4 for HB Curse, + 2d6 (Sneak Attack) ... (x2 for Thirsting Blade) ... AND, if I do an Eldritch Smite, that adds 5d8 more damage. And, with a 19 or 20 on either die, a crit doubles that loveliness.

I know you're mostly talking about the Longbow. Just pointing out that there is not a single (non-homebrew) two-handed melee weapon with the Finesse property.

That is accurate. It's all kinds of special. Which is one reason taking up a longbow is a radical departure for my character...
I mean if you manage to get all of that which was mentioned about by Jack, and could grab Swift Quiver as well, you could be pretty dangerous if you wanted to rely more on shooting than casting anything extra (in "character"). Could be kinda cool but it depends what you class out into and what else you'd be wanting to take.

Choose Tiefling with those stats. Go with str 16, dex 14, int 17 and cha 18, con 16 and wis 9. And enjoy
