trying to make a hexblade that can use stealth and track down his targets and not a push over in a fight, but im not sure if i should go rogue or fighter and use urban bounty hunter to get stealth, i would also like to have slight of hand but i might be wish listing here. im not sure if rogue is worth it as it seems like i would be missing out on a lot on the warlock but i like the idea of running hexblade assassin or scout to get the effect of ambushing the enemy dealing tons of damage between eldritch smite the curse and sneak attack plus auto crit, or for scout giving everyone advantage with ambush, then sweeping through the battle field using misty step i planned on duel-wielding short swords and as my weapon counts as a focus i wont have to grab warcaster. the only thing i would be using fighter for is to get an extra attack to be more of a power house. i want a Riddick/mandalorian type feel to my combat style but with magic of course. im not considering barbarian as i would like to avoid rage even though the combo with that frost armor spell and rage is really cool, i would be open any other multi class suggestions however.
Whoa that’s a lot to absorb! I don’t play melee-locks but whatever I do I would try to minimize the impact to my Warlock spell progression. Just a level or two dip. Warlock spells and invocations are too good to multiclass away. On the other hand, sometimes building a character is just as fun as playing!
Even if your pact weapon is your focus, you still will not be able to cast spells with both a V and S component. That only works with spells with a V, S and M component. You’ll be taking damage so Warcaster is not a bad idea to help you maintain Hex.
Race: Variant Human (nab Skulker or Dungeon Delver for the feat, all the better to reflect your youth hiding in doorways and stealthing into gang hideouts doing recon for the law)
Background: Urchin (raised on the streets, victimized by gangs etc, then started to work with local law enforcement to capture criminals, and started bounty hunting when reached adulthood).
Starting Class: lvl 3 Ranger/Horizon Walker (so you can turn attacks into force damage without having to worry about smite and you'd get some basic healing spells and hunters mark and take 2x humanoids as favored enemy and see if DM would let you have urban as natural explorer)
Multiclass: lvl 17 Warlock/Hexblade/blade pact, (your patron is one that hates crime, maybe a Holy Avenger sword possessed by a powerful paladin, nab darkness spell and devil sight and go Batman on the criminals)
Edit: maybe go lvl4 ranger, lvl 16 warlock to get the feats...
Doing a thief warlock right now having a blast. Went varient human. With urban bounty hunter. Took thief 1 now 4 levels as warlock. Going back for more thief want to be an assassin. Took pact of blade with glaive. Polearm master and great weapon master. The reach is awesome. Took devil's sight. Our image throws darkness on me and I kick ass lol. Looking forward to adding the assassin damage. Use eldritch smite to prone them the cut them down with glaive. Going for sentinel next to keep them down lol. Want to try a rogue/ ranger (gloom stalker) next.

You know Sneak Attack only works with Finesse or Ranged weapons, right?

Where does the Warlock part come into your character's story? What you're describing sounds like a pretty standard Ranger/Rogue type.

Yes I know thanks. The glaive is my pact weapon not only weapon.
Just remember sneak attack damage only works when using a finesse or ranged weapon
