So I've been mulling over the possible options of a small Rogue multiclass with Warlock (for Expertise, Cunning Action, among other reasons), and I've been curious about going JUST far enough at some point to gain a Rogue subclass.
Going over the different options, I initially though the Swashbuckler offered good features...a bonus to initiative equal to Charisma (which Warlocks excel at), as well as that ability to attack and run without provoking oppurtunity attacks.
But then I thought, "Unless I'm going Pact of the Blade, is this REALLY where my Warlock should be in combat...?"
So I took a look at the Mastermind Rogue...and I must say, I'm intrigued by that bonus-action "Help" action for allies within 30ft.
While I'd be using "Eldritch Blast" on most turns, having the bonus-action available to bolster allies seems VERY balanced around support.
Plus, a Mastermind Rogue just seems like the sort of person who'd become a Warlock...bargaining with extra-planar Patrons, manipulating in order to gain power...
On top of that, invocations like "Mask of Many Faces" & the "Actor" feat would mean that the Mastermind could become the ultimate infiltrator & spy....and Rogue "Expertise" means successful "Persuasion", "Deception" & "Intimidation" most times.
Gotta say...coupling this with the new Genie Warlock, I have a whole character concept involving a slippery and charming smooth-talker built around tricks & deception...who prefers to avoid combat when possible with "Bottled Respite".
I can also picture knocking out a guard or goon, putting them inside the genie vessel, then the Mastermind Warlock just assuming their identity so they can infiltrate the thieves guild or whatever stronghold they need to.
Seems like a social beast without compromising on combat economy.
I had an idea like this. A hexblade warlock with mastermind. They were inspired by the demon hunters from dauntless. I absolutely love their aesthetic, and the idea really appeals to me. They wielded a glaive. I would have chosen my homebrew pact of the lantern.

Also of note with bottled respite. The ability to just pick up something (like a desk) and steal it by going into your bottle is fantastic. I have a barbarian/warlock who recently ripped a spelljamming helm from a ship and then bottle respited it. YOINK.

how about a Rogue(Mastermind)/Warlock(Great Old One)?
