I originally posted this in the homebrew section, but thought I'd put it here as well - I'd really like some input on balance, particularly the Patron specific portion.
It seemed only appropriate that Warlocks get their own... and yes, I know they get Prestidigitation, but that just doesn't suit them, or sit right with me.
And so, I present Affliction, which I evidently can't tooltip, but it's in the Homebrew section, and here's the link:
I like the idea of a class that gets so few slots to still feel like they have some magic with cantrips.
This also gives 3x the range on a lot of the effects of prestidig. Overlapping so much of thaumaturgy probably isn't a great idea considering how often Warlock is paired with Tiefiling and a lot of their sub races get it baseline. Celestial basically gets a light cantrip added in to this, but they already get the light cantrip baseline. The big problem is all the subclass specific effects are so niche that they will almost never be used. If they never get used then it doesn't actually add any uniqueness to the subclasses.
I agree that the patron specific effects are a bit niche, bu they are really just there to flavor the base spell a bit. If anyone has any recommendations, though... I'm all ears.
What would you rather see in a Warlock themed equivalent spell? All three of the base spells are roughly equivalent in power and effect, so help me out with some comparable ideas that scream Warlock...
The concept is very nice but there are some problems with this spell, most dnd spells don't specify that it works for this class, meaning that it wont makes sense if any other class takes it or if someone takes it using magic initiate it'll feel not fitting, unless for you to take this spell you need warlock as prerequisite. The other problem i see with it that it implies that you'll be updating it every time a new otherworldly patron is released so perhaps if you only gave examples for one or two and let the players/DM come up with their own effects.

I know I'm suuuuper late to reply, but (and keep in mind I've yet to actually play D&D so this isn't really based on experience), I feel like having the celestial able to make flowers bloom and such feels a little druid-ish. Maybe lean into the fire aspect of what a celestial patron can provide?
As for this next part, it's mostly a nitpick but I'm sorry to say I can't think of how to resolve them. I feel like the archfey's effect is too similar to what you can already do with thaumaturgy, and that the great old one's effect doesn't really constitute a display of patron's power. To an onlooker that could be anything. Perhaps make it something to do with overwhelming senses? it'd be a little op to give an npc true madness with eldritch knowledge, but maybe there's a similar, less intense effect that could be applied.
Other than that I like the idea of each patron having their own sub effect with the cantrip!

So...
Wizards and Sorcerers get Prestidigitation, Clerics get Thaumaturgy, and Druids get Druidcraft.

That's good input... thank you. I'll make some changes based on this.
Version 2.0, based on some of the input above...

Idk, I think I'd still just want prestidigitation over that
OK - so, why?
