This is my first time trying to use the forums, so if I'm doing this wrong, go ahead and tell me.
I'm currently making my first home-brew subclass, for warlocks (duh), based on an idea I thought would be interesting. The core idea was a character who is unable to not lie. As in, they are incapable of making true statements. (I really like to make things hard on myself when it comes to in-character conversations. It's a problem.) This evolved into them being a warlock whose patron is the Lord of Lies, the Duke of Deceit, the Master of Misdirection, and I'm getting carried away again. Basically, the warlock's patron is some kind of deity or demon of lies.
I already set up the spells (Mostly illusion, I was trying to make them things that would deceive) And the level one bonuses (The aforementioned incapability to tell the truth, and advantage to deception rolls). I'm just at a bit of a loss as to what the higher level features should be. Any ideas?
Second- You are diabolical. I hope you have a really good relationship with your gaming table because if EVERY statement that a PC made was a lie, that could get grating over time lol. That being said as a Chaotic Good ArchFey Warlock- I love every bit of that flavor lol.
So you really need to think about the GENERAL pattern of Warlock features ( I say general because the OG PHB classes follow this formula pretty closely but the expansions stray a bit)
1st level- General Thematic bonuses and a low level offensive or support ability.
6th level- Defensive / Support ability.
10 level- Ribbon Bonus / Rest Based defensive bonus.
14th Level- High level encounter changing bonus ability. Usually offensive or defensive in nature- usually not support based.
So thinking about what you are going for I would play around with not just illusion but abilities and spells based around falsehood. Your spell list should include things like Blur & Mirror Image for instance- anything associated with deception. Off the top of my head I thought of the following for subclass features
Might be SLIGHTLY on the strong side compared to PHB but seem inline with Celestial, Hexblade, Lurker and Undead.
1st Level- Life of Lies- Your casual relationship to deception extends even to your vitality. You gain the Fiendish Vigor Warlock Invocation for free. You also are proficient in Deception and have advantage on Deception Rolls.
6th Level- Cloak of Deception- Your lies protect you even when your body fails. When you fail a saving throw against elemental or physical damage, roll a deception check against the save DC. If your deception check succeeds against the save DC, you teleport up to 15 feet and avoid the damage entirely. Once you use this feature, you cannot use it again until you finish a long rest.
10th Level- Dishonest Thoughts- Your mind becomes slippery sometimes fooling even yourself. You are immune to the Zone of Truth spell. You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened and against any spells that try to discern your thoughts or emotions. Once per day, you may cast your False Life spell granted by Fiendish Vigor at 5th level.
14th Level- Power of Deceit- The power of your ill intent seeps into the weave of magic itself. You gain expertise in Deception if you do not already have it. If you already have it, you may gain expertise in another skill. When you cast any spell that targets a single creature and that spell fails to hit or the creature saves against the effect, you may choose to immediately re-target the magic to a different creature close to the original target. A ranged spell may re-target a creature within 30 feet and a touch spell may re-target a creature within 5 feet. The spell then proceeds as normal but you may not re-target again if the spell fails to hit or the new creature saves against the effect. Once you use this feature, you cannot use it again until you finish a long rest.
That's really helpful, thank you. (Also, as a sidenote, I think it would be fun for myself trying to communicate without saying anything true. I'll probably use a lot of "Did you know..?" "Have you realized..?" or "How have you not noticed..?" sentences to communicate, because they're not statements and aren't inherently true or false.)
I'm not gonna lie but they do have the pact of the fiend. However if you want it more focused on an aspect of fiendish abilities like how the hexblade. You could do so much with it.
However for spells go for the harmful enchantments and maybe some mind altering spells of some kind. Also I recommend you look at the pact of the great old one for inspiration.
Maybe something like calling the subclass. Pact of the Trickster or something along the lines. The first abilities is the foundation to your creation. Maybe like a first level subclass ability could revolve around your character having advantage on deception or persuasion.
Im looking at creating a sorcerer subclass and a big source book on races and subraces of humans, tieflings, and Aasimars. I'm going to be creating a new horrific creature type.

I could use some help with a draconic patron if your up to it. My world is very dragon themed so that's why.
My Homebrew world, Magibis
Improved Hex(spell)
Cult Brute(monster)
For spells I had a few but not much
1st chromatic orb,
2nd Dragons breath
3rd Fly
And I don't have anything for the rest
So I need 1 of level 1-3 and two of 4 and 5

Improved Hex(spell)
Cult Brute(monster)
