In this weeks session our dm gave our lvl 7 characters each a rare magic item. my divination wizard got a staff of insect swarming. was looking at it and the insect cloud seems really really good. am i correct in that it seems to give disadvantage on attack rolls against me and any of my attack spells get advantage since the area is heavily obscured for creatures other than me? I'm giddy just thinking about the boost this gives me on keeping my concentration since all attacks on me are less likely to hit. the other spells seem situationally useful like i already had some giant wasps carry our party across some booby trapped floors using a tarp and rope and insect plague is decent damage at this level. is it as good as it seems?
It's a very underrated and ignored magic item. People talk all the time about how good the Darkness + Devil's Sight combo is (with the understanding that positioning is important in order to avoid messing with your allies), but very few people seem to realize that you can get the same effect from this staff, and do so without using concentration.

Yep, that is how the insect cloud works. Nice get.
