my OP Paladin got transformed into a Bard witch was a bit trash, and so i changed time to compensate and get him back to his OP self, unfortunately i pronounced his name wrong and the DM caught this and so nothing happened, and in my state of complete weakness i got eaten by a Tarasque. But the GM decided to let it slide and the paladin was back and the rest of the group weakened it , then the paladin cut me out.
FIREBALL!!!!! Personally just due to the fact that I love explosions though
LOL! my wizard also loves that spell! i need to play him a bit more to get him up in level. he finished DDAL season 4 at level 7. would love to get him to tier 3 and really see what he can do.
I haven't really gotten that far yet in game but so far it is by far my favorite spell yet. I still have yet to get to tier 2 but I hope to see what my wizard can do as well!
Prestidigitation: Back in 3.5e, DM allowed me to make an illusory slideshow to people who we need their help to stop demonic invasion. Since then, this is my favorite one, even in 5E. I allow people to use it in their will with any logical purpose.
Alter Self: I'm using it with my necromancers to look like an undead. It's effective!
It totally depends on the type of caster I'm playing. For example, I'm about to start an OotA campaign where I'm playing a Shadow Sorcerer, so spells that fit thematically are going to be my go to. For my other campaign, I have an Evocation Wizard who ended up being the utility kid (with a group that never played before), so Rary's Telepathic Bond finally helped the DM stop yelling at them for Metagaming (but we can communicate telepathically... of course I can tell them to flank!). :P
But Arcane spells I usually take: Shield (life saver), Minor Illusion (crouch down and pretend you are a rock), Misty Step (avoids Opportunity attacks).
Mine has to be rope trick, or any other spell that makes an extradementional space. I particularly like rope trick because it makes for a great GTFO button. Being able to take the party out of combat for an hour, or just hiding from a particularly tough bad guy is just to much fun.

Hell yeah I am going to Polymorph the boss into a Rabbit. I have always wanted a being a pure evil stuffed into a ball of fluff.
Animate Objects (for obvious reasons). Thinking about putting an "Animation Grenade" in my campaign. Throw it in a room, shut the door, and listen to your adversaries get slaughtered by common household items.
Prismatic spray (and the other prismatic spells too). I like that the effect is a bit random, but also going to be potent, and because I like the idea of it so much that it has frequently shown up in my campaigns whether I am DMing or playing once they reach appropriately high enough level, it has had many opportunities to provide for awesome moments and as a result has become a part of many of those "Oh man, remember when..." moments for my play group.
Plus, I like the whole "Eat my power rainbow!" aesthetic that takes something many people would consider non-intimidating (or worse, they would call "girly" as a pejorative) and proves it to be potently dangerous and thus awesome. (He said, sitting at his desk looking like a typical mountain man or metal-head with long hair and bushy beard, while listening to New Orleans jazz on spotify, while wearing a Mario Bros. tee, and a pair of fuzzy pink hello kitty pajama pants.)

What is your favorite spell and why? Feel free to tell and fun stories you have that involve spellcasting in general

Obfuscatory and Abstruse Nomenclature
Toss up. Message or Prestidigitation.

My fave ones are Prestidigitation and Alter Self.

"What are you lookin' at, filthy mortal?"
My favourite is Dream. best roleplaying spell ever.
Dominate Person. I play Enchantment Wizard, and that spell with Split Enchantment is crazy. Having 2 Thralls is crazy!
Aren't Enchantment Wizards just...charming?
This is too open-ended for me to answer. But I made a poll to answer a narrower question.
My 5e Houserule Considerations. Please comment freely.
Any spell that allows me to buff myself of my party members.
Fly, Haste, Invisibility, Magic Weapon, etc... pick your poison adventurers!
For me it is Shield, saves my life every game!
I would have to say that Magic Missile is my all time favorite. It's an oldie but a goodie! and it never fails!

Wary the wizard who focuses on homebrew, for he can create nightmares that you wouldn't even dream of

Animation Grenade... what a fantastic idea!
I may 'Borrow' this. ;)
