Hi Lavender_r_dragon! welcome to DDB! Thanks for sharing your suggestions and input. A few notes for you.
The plan is for the game log to eventually include the ability to add notes, distribute treasure, etc. That may still be a long while. For the moment, the DM can add notes about treasure, etc. In the public notes section for the campaign for players to see. My group uses discord for both voice and text communication, so for the moment those kinds of things go there.
can you be more specific about what made the marketplace hard to navigate? It works well on my iPad….at least for an “old hand” at DDB. More detail would probably help the developers, too.
You should be able to add custom items. Maybe not from the app (it is behind the website in some respects), but definitely from the website interface, although it is a bit hidden. In the inventory list (one of the “tabs” in the big box on the right of the sheet) locate the section labeled equipment (or tap the equipment sub-tab), scroll to the bottom, tap “add equipment”, If, in the sidebar that opens there is nothing listed under “contents” tap “contents” to show the list of contents, scroll to the bottom, and tap “add custom item.” For now, custom items can only go in the equipment “container,” not in any of the other containers (like backpack, etc.). This is because being able to put equipment in containers is very new, and custom items are on the backend very different creatures thank regular equipment. The plan is to allow this eventually and, if I have understood correctly, some work has already been one on it…..re-reading your post maybe you sorted it eventually? If so, you are absolutely right, it would be nice for it to be easier/more obvious.
So I've just started playing d&d (one group has had about 3 sessions, 2nd group had first last night which is where I was introduced to this app).
There is a lot I really like about this app but there are some weird things:
- wish I could record manual dice rolls as I have some really nice dice :)
- wish log was editable cause I accidently recorded 3 dice rolls that weren't real.
- wish dm (and others) could put notes in the game log - I used healing word on x, we defeat the goblins and split 100 gold and some gems, etc
- marketplace is hard to navigate in tablet browser, and the Android app has some kinks
- wish it was easier to add custom things - like i'm a bard and I should be able to add a custom instrument to my choices
- set up process was still a little confusing - I was wandering around without my dagger and armor briefly
