Seems it would expand their testing greatly and give them a huge amount of data to work with as to how people are building with the test content and in identifying unintended interactions and the like. Hopefully it's not outside the realm of possibility as I for one always really enjoyed the UA when it appeared on Beyond and definitely don't test things nearly as much anymore.
Whilst there were people who loved UA, I believe the staff dropped support for it because, with DnD Beyond's small team, working on this was taking away work from other features that were deemed more important (e.g Inventory Management and Containers, Updating Character Sheets to new book releases).
It's unfortunate, but it has been a change for the better.
With WotC backing now, it may be possible to have more resources dedicated to this. Personally, I prefer the current approach as there are many features on this site that still need fixing/updating but the progress has been steadier thanks to decisions like this.

I can't see this as genuine though in most situations though, obviously UA implementing completely new systems but not the majority. They often had them up and running perfectly within days of release. Often the homebrew system can handle entire subclasses and spells immediately. It's never been about causing delays to other implementation because they spend so little time on implementation - it's delays to virtual dice more likely that they're afraid of.
Hopefully with the WotC aquisition we can see some big changes to the team and see DnDBeyond actually live up to its place in the community. UA is one thing, not providing support for Boons, Dark Gifts, Draconic Gifts etc is just embarrassing - thus my hope for change going forward.

They are actively working on the framework that is going to enable a lot more optional rules like boons and gifts. Unfortunately there is no way of knowing when it will come out.

Leaving OGL 1.0(a) untouched and making SRD 5.1 CC-BY-4.0 is a great first step. The next is a promise to do the same for future editions. Here's a discussion thread on that.
They've been working on that for like 4 years now. Also, so much of the UA can be done with just the homebrew system - which I'm sure their version of is much more flexible providing even more options and levers. I honestly haven't had a great deal of faith that the implementation team are getting the support they need and hope that WotC can make some changes focused towards the customers and players rather than just looking for more ways to squeeze dollars out in virtual dice microtransactions. UA back on the platform is a great place to start.

This excuse no longer works. They've been "working on it" for about 4 years. Given what DND Beyond is - i.e. a database, essentially, there is no possibility that it could take them that long if the team was both:
A) Making this any kind of priority to work on at all.
and
B) Competently run.
So you have to conclude that one of those is not true. Either Beyond has not been competently run for a few years (which I could believe), or Beyond has kept saying this is a priority/intention when actually, it has not been, and other tech which is less relevant to most customers have been pushed ahead of it.

DDB is great, but it could be better. Here are some things I think could improve DDB
