Giving away Legendary Bundles seems to be the de rigueur thing that DDB does for any form of competition. And that's fine, and that's dandy, and that's great, but, it's also a pretty big thing to give away and its value will only ever increase as more content comes out. It also leaves us poor sods who actually paid for our Legendary Bundles feeling left out...
OK, that was a bit melodramatic and a major aside from the point I'm trying to make. Anyway, the point is that instead of Legendary Bundles, why not do book give-aways or even item, race, or whatever give-aways? I might've missed you doing that previously but I can't recall any time that it was done. And even if it was, the rest of my idea is an important part of this concept, so keep reading.
This thread is about minor competition ideas, primarily. To get feedback from the community on more geek engagement activities that DDB could do to encourage more active participation. Not that there isn't enough participation, I'm just saying it's a value add that wouldn't be too burdensome to run.
For instance, every so often one of the writers for the home page could do a review of published homebrew. Top 5 best magical items, with number one winning a new book release that is centred around magical items, whilst the rest get like 4, 3, 2, 1 magical items from the book. Same with races and classes and spells and monsters. Or maybe a writing competition, like writing a one page adventure and the prize for 1st place being one of the new release adventure books.
Some competitions could even be run by other entities like a gaming blog or something. Or, when you end up allowing the gifting of content, even regular subscribers could run comps in the forums. Anyhoo, just a thought, 'cause, you know, I like free stuff and all my homebrew is amazingly awesome and deserves credit and praise and adulation.
Sorry but you're suggesting that , for the benefit of those who have bought Legendary Bundles the competitions instead give single books or race/class/etc bundles. However, I don't see how that is a benefit compared to giving away (i.e. buying for free) a Legendary Bundle?
The Legendary Bundle is far greater value so it's much more of a prize. It gives you access absolutely everything and in addition to that you get 15% discount on all new content to be released in future, forever.
If you've bought the bundle, there's literally nothing left they can give you.
Perhaps they can consider a credit on your account or something for greater discount off a future purchase when something new is made and released. But that can be tricky, both in coding set up and legality. I don't really know what other prizes they could give instead. This is probably the reason why the competitions are not designed around praising homebrew or something - so that not being able to take part in the competition because you already have the bundle is just timing and not you missing an opportunity on appraisal for your stuff. It also keeps it strictly random rather than people invested time and effort to not get picked and risking some customers having bruised egos about it. The bundles cost a lot, not just for customers - DNDBeyond will have to still buy the content licenses from WotC for that free Bundle and they can only do this because of people who did purchase things. This way, keeping it random, means less people who will be holding out on purchasing because they think they can "earn" a free bundle by making good enough homebrew. This will actually decrease their sales and profits.
Then the fact that the homebrew will need to be published homebrew and that means more submissions. They are getting approx 200 submissions a day and truthfully they are struggling with this amount. As soon as they go "oh hey, your homebrew might earn you $300 worth of free content!" you could very easily see that number rise to several thousand a day. Approval waiting time will go from 2 weeks to 3 or 4 months.
I understand what you want, but really, I don't see it being feasible.

Master tier subscriptions and upcoming book releases are about all that would be meaningful for legendary bundle holders.
The idea is for minor competitions. But yes, I would certainly welcome a Master Tier subscription as a prize, even if it were only for a month. Free stuff is free stuff, after all.
