Greetings. When you buy digital content in a web page, you don't want to depend on other webpages to complement the funcionalities that you need to play online. That's my case at least, and I suppose there are many players that have pruchased a lot of content in D&D beyond but depend on other webpages to play online. That pages also want you to purchase their content/subscriptions, wich forces you either to pay twice, pirate or to not use the features you paid for (my case). For me, the only tool D&D beyond lacks to supply all my needs in D&D is an interactive grid. I guess we all know what I mean with an interactive grid, so I will propose a list of features straight: - A pool of maps obtained from all the books and adventures purchased. - A pool of generic maps courtesy of the page. - And adjustable grid. - A tool to measure the distance between two cells. There are two modes for counting diagonal lenght, so I would give the player the options to use either (even do i suppose most would use the complex method). - A tool to measure if a monster/character has cover from an attack of a monster/character (the DMG's guide to measure cover's and grid is a pain to use, as the human eye is not that good creating imaginary lines and using external objects to draw lines is tedious and sometimes the results aren't that clear). - Integration with the characters of the campaigns. One GREAT feature would be to allow the DM and the other players to click a character to see their hit points, passive scores and even AC. Also, an option to include companions as part of the party. It's a pain in the interactive grid of other pages to ask the DM time after time to include both in the grid and in the initiative tracker my familiar. - Integration with the combat tracker. Things like highlight the monster/character who has to do it's turn, allow the DM to check the hit points and sheet of the monsters by clicking them, and allow the players to check which monster are visibly injured.
I hope people like my suggestions and I wish D&D beyond to implement them. I would also like to hear suggestions from other players, I will edit the post if I find/think of something interesting.
Thank you for making these suggestions. The DDB team really appreciates in put from users.
There are plans for a DDB to create a "digital game space," and the encounter builder and combat tracker are part of that, but I think map tools are a long ways off.
In the meantime, if you "own" the content here, you can download the maps you need an import them into a VTT. Staff here have said that is acceptable. There are some third-party, unsupported tools that allow integrations between DDB and some VTTS out there.
I would really like it if you could make a playmat, I think that my campaign would be better if people could see what is happening, give them something to look at. I do it all online mostly using dndbeyond. If you could make a easy to use playmat, that would be something very helpful to not only me but other players.
