Genuinely, I know that there have been rough patches in the past between Wizards and their consumers, and even though they've made questionable business choices in the past, one thing is proved to an extent time and time again, and that's that they do listen to their audience.
I've never used the feedback forums. I'd just been listening to the changes. Last year I unsubscribed in protest. I had been watching with interest thinking I might resubscribe due to recent developments. But when I heard the recent issue about 2014 content being unusable... Well I lost hope. But then I heard they walked it back. And so now... with hesitation... I'm resubscribing. Because the players are being listened to. IF they continue to work with us with respect... they will have my money. With enough time they will have regained my trust.
Hear, hear! This is a non trivial course correction to make in a short period of time in response to customer feedback.
Thank you to D&D Beyond management to having the wherewithal to make that call so late in the cycle, and to the workers who will be putting in the hours to make it happen.
From that post, they're no longer going to be deleting our spells and magic items. Plus while there's going to be a couple changes to the character sheet, they're non-functional changes. (Renaming race to species, inspiration to heroic inspiration, and casting a spell to magic action.)
So if they fully follow through on that, great news!
They've reversed course. Nothing is being removed, and there will be a 2014 version of the character sheet (more or less, there's a couple of slight changes in wording).

oh thank the lord, i was gonna have to spendd a month remaking the sspells for my players
I will point out this did come at a cost. Unless I'm misreading the update, they made it so no one is getting the 2024 spells and magic items now for free. You want it, you now have to pay for it. So the people who actually wanted to use the updated spells but didn't want to buy the books got the short end of the stick with this change.
Now I can keep using the site. I use the character builder for all my foundry ports, but I have no interest in the 5.5e content. Rather keep hold of it than be forced to use stuff I don't want.

First, I will say I understand that perspective. Once they promised that I did figure they'd be stuck with giving them regardless.
That said, two things that might still help with that. First, the new update didn't specify if they were taking aware that part of the prior announcement. So there's a chance that if you own the current PHB you'll still get the 5.5 versions in addition to keeping your 5.0 spells/items. If it still is the case my guess for the lack of addressing it in the update is that it wasn't really something expressing anger were concerned about. Second, regardless of the PHB spells/items status, all DDB players will get the 5.5 basic rules for free and those should include a good chunk of what would need to be paid for. So you can still have a free dip into 5.5 if you want even if the other stuff was rolled back.
Speaking from my perspective I'm 100% okay if they decide not to give us all the 5.5 spells like they initially said. I had never expected to get those 5.5 spells/items from the PHB/DMG in the first place so it's not like I'm losing something I wanted. And keeping my current purchases' functionality is far more valuable to me. I also assume most others would be fine with it too since I have to imagine the majority of people that were looking forward to the 5.5 spells had already pre-ordered the 5.5 core books that would unlock them anyways.
I do understand if you're disappointed. But there's still a chance you'll get still get them and even if not, there's still basic rules.

I am fairly certain you don't intend for the line to be read this way, however, WOTC never said 2014 PHB owners would get the 2024 PHB.
What was happening was 2014 PHB owners spells and Items in their character sheets were being replaced with the 2024 version, mechanically in the Character sheet. You were not getting the 2024 PHB, and if you were to access the 2024 PHB you would have been redirected to the marketplace to buy, like you are for unowned books currently.

The original changelog never said you "got" the 2024 spells and Items, just that your character sheet's mechanics would be replaced with the 2024 versions.
The 2024 content was always new content to be purchased and the original changelog and the update have not changed that.
If you want to play D&D with the 2024 rules, someone in your campaign will need to buy the 2024 rules.

Yes, thank you for listening. You did the right thing here and it is very much appreciated. While I've already preordered the 2024 PHB and my group will be switching over right away, all of us still very much wanted access to all of our previously purchased content and to have the ability to *choice* what we wanted to use. This is welcome news.
Thank You for Listening DDB & WotC, you did the right thing, in the end and it means a lot. (Thank you, to everyone who said something, when what was going to happen was not okay with you.) I think I feel comfortable enough to buy the 2024 Player's Handbook now (I was holding off to purchase, until I knew that everything would still work for 2014 character and that that content would still be available). On with the fun!
I would advise everybody still using the 2014 rules through DDB to take the time you have been granted, and find an alternative if you simply must have an online character generator, plus the other tools DDB has. The other alternative is to finalize your campaigns using the 2014 rules, and be prepared to make the move to the 2024 rules. With their track record of scandals, they can't be trusted not to figure out a way to do this all again down the road, and not have to cave in to public pressure.
Sorry, but they have in my opinion completely lost the plot. The fact the changes were made in the first place speaks to a complete mismatch between the management, and the community. The push towards aggressive monetisation and the language used during interviews has me convinced that any rollbacks based on community feedback are completely insincere, and the company entirely hostile to the community.
The quality of work being produced is subpar. The treatment of their own staff appalling. I have no faith that under current management, and potentially ownership, that this company will move on the whole in a direction positive to the community, or the IP.
WOTC is entirely responsible for the resurgent support for alternate systems, ironically the one thing I do feel positively towards them for. Not just competing product lines, but older versions of D&D. I spent quite some time today reading through a borrowed copy of the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons rulebooks. There could not possibly be a more stark example of how badly the property has lost its way than reading the foreword from Steve Winter back in 1995 and comparing this to the comments made in interviews and releases from WOTC in more recent times.
I have a standing Masters tier subscription that I cancelled months ago, set to expire in February. I have at this stage absolutely no intention of renewing unless there are serious indications that things are going to improve. Given some of the recent interviews I alluded to earlier (looking at you Chris Cao, and Jess Lanzillo) on top of their curious decisions so far, I hold great hopes for the future of our table, and alternate systems.
Nah screw them. They listened again but they will keep doing this until they get their way and our money. They do not care about anything else. I want a refund and I’m done with WOTC/Hasbro.

Cancelled my Master Tier Subscription 01/12/23 because of OGL 1.1
All sales are final on digital via support/tos. Don’t like the changes and practices of Hasbro/WoTC stop paying subs/buying their products. That’s what I am doing now.
Sorry, but they have in my opinion completely lost the plot.
Exactly! I don't think most people including management, realize, but DNDBeyond almost removed the only reason for using their site.
It's such a serious miscalculation of what their business model is (convenience in the toolset, that's it), that it's hard to believe someone with a functioning brain came up with it. And my guess is that it wasn't just one person making this decision.
Imagine this: a bunch of grown-ups sat together in a room and decided "Let's torpedo the only reason we have a job" and noone dared to speak up.
