It would be very convenient if there was a section under Spells that allowed me to set the spells I will prepare after my next long rest. It would be great if when I take a long rest my spell preparations would change over automatically.
I often think of spells I want to change out, but it is not at a time that is convenient to actually change my existing spells.
Just a suggestion, but it is the last thing I need from my actual "pencil and paper" play.
I'm not a big fan of this idea. I rarely know what the plans for the next day are with enough advance to conveniently plan my spells while still in the middle of the current day and doing stuff. Usually a long rest includes time to change your spells (which doesn't take long as is). And I just know this would result in people's spells changing when they changed their minds about it.
A different idea I've heard that I think is better and I hope you agree is prepared spell presets. Have a couple of prepared spell lists and be able to quickly change your prepared spells to any of these lists.
This could be really convenient for someone who has a "constant set" of spells always prepared and only likes to change out one or two at a time. As someone about to play a Druid and who normally plays a Cleric, this would be AMAZING. It should be a function you can turn "on" though so as not to annoy someone like DJC who changes things everyday.
I do also like the idea of Prepared Spell Lists or "quick pick" options you can setup to make your life way easier. Similar to armour and weapons sets in a game like Monster Hunter World.
"Fighting Undead" Contains spells specifically set towards that enemy
"Talking with NPCs" Contains mostly non-combat and more roleplay helpful spells
I'm a fan of this idea. Most of the time the party is 'preparing for bed' and then encounters happen overnight. Having a separate 'Next Day Spells' list means I can set them up while I complete a long rest (watch shifts are carried out, dreams happen) and if I end up in an encounter I still have my current spells active and slots used. At the end of the long rest (if one is indeed completed), selecting the 'Long Rest' button would then overwrite the current spells with the 'Next Day' ones and clear all used slots.
Indeed, this would be great. When a new day starts, at least in our table the DM is busy describing what is happening, and that is really really inconvenient time to switch out spell.
I could do it earlier, but if something happens at night, then that's a bit of a hassle, trying to remember what spells I actually have. And making the entire table wait while I switch spells is inconvenient too. I could have pen and paper and mark any changes there, so I wouldn't have to think about them and could more easily change them while also listening to DM talk... but that kind of defeats the purpose of digital character sheet, partially.
It wouldn't even have to be this specific feature in DnDBeyond, it could just be ability to have a checkbox (maybe 3-state checkbox, like empty, plus, minus) next to each spell to mark it on the sheet, letting the player to use that checkbox for what ever purpose, and a single button "clear all marks" at the bottom of the list.
