My players have homebrew in their collections, and I would like to make it so it does not appear for my other players in the campaign. It is very confusing for them, as they have all this content that they don't know whether or not they can use. How do I make it so that only my content is shared with them?
There is no easy/complete way to do so, unfortunately. If the homebrew in question was created by your players, you can ask them to remove it from their collection, as it will, stay in their creations. unfortunately if it’s homebrew they “subscribed” to, that’s not an option. And if the also DM other campaigns and want to include their homebrew monsters in their encounters, they have to be in their collection.
I'm very upset that we cannot control what content our players can use. I get that we can disable whole books, but what if I allow some things from certain books and not others? At least I should be able to control what homebrew gets shared between my players, I don't see why the Devs have even left this issue to plague us.
We normally play in person (i run a west marches game with over a dozen players that drop in and out)
I have a lot of homebrew (a couple races, many subraces and houseruled races, over a dozen subclasses and many houseruled subclasses, 1 or 2 racial feats for every race that lacks them which i cant properly program prerequisites for and am still upset about, 20+ new spells and a dozen houseruled spells), so my content is already a lot to take in, but some of my players are DMs and have their own content as well, and it all appears in each others campaigns and its really annoying.
Especially for the new players who cant handle seeing it all on screen at once, let alone taking the time to compare to a list to see what they can and cant use (ive got a few players with ADHD and Autism, i cant ask them to endure a reference list). Ive tried using symbols and prefix's to mark my content, but theres still a lot of other homebrew cluttering the builder that lacks it. Somebody in there has a raven queen warlock patron that isnt mine and i get asked about it all the time.
I just really want fine control over what content does and doesnt get shared, and who can and cant share content.
Hmm. I can't say I have much experience with Westmarches play. Usually I would say that you would address this sort of thing in session 0, but that's not as helpful in that format.
I'm a little unsure about what you're trying to do. Aren't all the players in the same campaign? Do some DMs not operate under the same campaign restrictions? Or is the issue that you don't have access to other people's homebrew?
Im the only DM at the moment... There were others, but things happened. We don't really operate by proper west marches rules anymore, we still have a few things like inspiration points and multiple characters rules, but we've modified them to suit our own desires. But some of the players in the campaign ae DMs for their own private games.
Regardless, what i want to be able to do is stop the homebrew in my players collections from appearing to my other players in the campaign (there are random broken feats, races, and subclasses appearing in their character builders), and ideally curate what official content can and can't be used, but the website can't do that. I have a slew of my own homebrew that is legal for the campaign and in use by some of the players, and i want them to see that, but the builder is so clustered with all this other non-legal homebrew, and its really overwhelming for some of them. Some of them can't even tell at a glance what is official and what is homebrew (they don't know the game like the back of their hands).
One of the things that was appealing about DDB was how easy it was to streamline character creation and implement homebrew seemlessly into that streamline. But there is no way to control what options are available to the characters of my campaigns, official or homebrew. So not only do they have to contend with seeing official content they can't use, but random homebrew from other players as well.
Their character creation menu allows them to turn off homebrew options, but it doesn't really give the option to turn off only some homebrew. I would put your list of allowables in your campaign information window. Not really what your are looking for I understand, but it can't hurt. The only other thing I can offer would be to walk a player through character creation, which still isn't ideal but is needed fora lot of new players. Or make a character for them based on what they say they are interested in.
What is really needed is an option for a campaign-specific homebrew collection. "This specific piece of homebrew is valid only for characters in this specific campaign".

Thats a good idea too. I have homebrew for a setting called Dark Matter loaded into DDB, and i have to keep it disabled (removed from my collection) so it doesnt appear to players in my normal campaign. So being able to designate which campaigns a piece of homebrew can share to would be good as well.
Just more content sorting tools in general would be a massive quality of life improvement.
Its a realy bad implementation, as a new user and dm i was fidling around with homebrewing some time ago to learn more about the app. Only to find out suddenly a player was using my homebrew spells ingame..

If it helps you specifically, you can remove a piece of homebrew you have created from your "collection" (the blue/orange button at the bottom of its listing), without deleting it from your "creations".

Perhaps create an approved options list?

Are all of your players new? Even new, I would think a use-list would take care of it. Do you usually play on-line or in person?
