Being a long time player and relatively new DM I have always wanted a place that I can go online or through an app to search for all these things while running the game. If my understanding of this application is correct, it can automate much of the tedious aspects of the game while still keeping the social aspects and open world aspects of the game intact. This sounds AWESOME to me! The things that draw me to D&D are that you can do ANYTHING you want in the game, the draw back for me and my groups have always been keeping organized and remembering rules/effects etc. and spending a fair amount of time looking things up--even with considerable preparation for a session this can be an issue. I think this would cut much of the set up and game management time down considerably and leave more time for playing. It's like you are combining the benefits of a video games automation with the open world do whatever you want aspect of D&D--this sounds perfect to me. My assumption is that the intent is that both the DM and players would have a tablet/smartphone/laptop with the application running during the game but my hope is that it could be customized to have players with both paper sheets and technology.
Here are things I would be interested in seeing:
Shareable character sheets between accounts--so DM's can access any player sheet at any given time during the campaign
Access to maps that you can send to players that have DM notes hidden. (import a map, make DM notes on it, be able to share the maps with players without DM notes)
Item search by class/race/level
downloadable app that can be used offline (I saw that this was already discussed and in the works, I just wanted to reiterate this aspect)
Something along the lines of spell range, shape, and size guides--I have no idea how this would work, just that it's been an issue almost every campaign I've played in--who get's hit, were can I cast it hitting every enemy but not ally, what squares does it fit in...that sort of thing
Reminders of effects for characters, monsters, and DMs--you are poisoned, click effect on character sheet and it reminds you to take damage, roll saving throw, or that you have resistance/immunity
Add a timer
monster stat block sheets (import to one location for the DM the stat block of monsters being used, so on one page stat blocks for thug, kobold, goblin and cultist could be set so a DM could prepare ahead of time and not flip back and forth between)
generators (name, inn, shop, encounter etc. donjon has some great stuff)
in app dice (I'm not sure how I feel about this personally, but I see it's benefit--you'll never get me to stop rolling real dice! you'll get my d20 when you pry it from my cold dead hand)
I think the potential of this product is to spend less time fiddling with the rules during the game and more about the adventure building. I think this would allow people to play more in the time they have rather than spending a lot of that time killing the momentum looking things up.
Hopefully my rant makes some sense and thanks for letting me add my 2 cents. I could be wrong about all of this but am excited to give it a go!
Thanks Bubby - this didn't seem at all like a rant to me.
Appreciate the suggestions here. While we can't quite talk about what on the roadmap too much yet, I think you'll be very pleased with where we're going with it!
Add a scream here, a howl there, an errant arrow zipping through the air...I'd love to have the option to add sound effects as they come up in the game without being "wait wait hold on...ah here it is....loading..."! Also having the option to add ambient noise of a market, cave, or forest to set the stage. I think that would be a really neat feature. The app DMDJ kind of has that, but having it all in one spot without having 10 different tabs open would be great!
Bubby your list of features and ideas is an amazing one. You gave voice to several things I didn't even know I wanted lol

Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination. I will protect those who cannot protect themselves, I will protect even those I hate so long as it is right.
Love it, I'm excited to see what's in store! Many of my players are already using technology at the table (spellbooks/character sheets/item look up/secret messages from the DM or between players), I still like paper character sheets when I am playing--mainly because I haven't found anything I like yet.
Oh! that's a good one to add--Messaging to players! DM is able to send items or messages! or If players want to keep plans secret from the DM or other players. Super excited to see what you guys come up with!

Great list! RPGChef is another I've used that to build campaigns and one-shot encounters, even just being able to put all the monsters I'll be using in a session in one place. I haven't seen some of the stuff on your list, looking forward to spending the day perusing.
Having a lot of this in one app would be amazing.

I didn't even think of a soundboard that would be so handy! I'm tired of making spotify playlists lol

If the devs add a "MAPS" section, this will be the best rpg app ever.

I wonder if we could get Syrinscape integration (probably not but I can dream)

Adding that to my list of cool tools I have found over the years.
