Just goin' to ask this dummy question, but it is not stated obviously on the site and news clips about this new site. Is the long term goal to deliver a virtual tabletop experience, maybe even Twitch integrated, as well as part of this - or is the scope online reference material only? I DM on Roll20 and my players are already talking about this newly announced site, and I'm trying to figure out what our expectations should be. And on a practical level, where / what platform to invest in content from Wizards.
Love the site so far, very intuitive and good looking interface. Will definitely be leveraging this beta for my games this week.
So far as I have been able to discern, this is a electronic reference and a utility belt of sorts. I've seen nothing to suggest that there will be a virtual tabletop interface nor anything like text based game rooms. Still, if the ad clips are anything to go by, this could shape up to be a very valuable tool for both online and real life session.

In fact, it's been stated that virtual tabletop is explicitly NOT a goal of Beyond, I think.
So far the site is clean and easy to use. Which is nice. However I really, REALLY hope Curse decides to make this a VTT that combines ease of use like Fantasy Grounds and the functionality and flexibility of Roll20. One can dream.
My DM Christmas list:
A client that has the ease of use of fantasy grounds. A standalone app or web based.
I think with the strides WOTC has been making with Roll20 and Fantasy Grounds that an "official" vtt just isn't happening. They are really supporting the 2 major ones already.
I think it's easier for this app, website to become more of a companion to those already available options.

I'm a very active user of Roll20 for virtual tabletop. I've really liked seeing more D&D material being integrated into it, like with "Storm King's Thunder" having virtually a simultaneous release on Roll20 and in print. It would be really exciting if DnDB might evolve to have integration with/into Roll20.
Adam (BadEye) said they don't wish to compete with sites like Roll20, but instead to supplement them. This is designed to work with either VTT or in person, allowing faster searching and lookup of rules. Can see his comments in the twitch recording here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/129811521 (Go to 5 hour 20 min mark where he joins in).
I would love to see this work directly with Roll20, it could be an improvement to the srd import feature. Being able to build a character, or monster on my phone or tablet, and drag and drop into roll20 would be awesome.

Thanks :)
An official VTT would be great though. Maybe it's something they will do in the future. :)
