I have a Bard in my party and his Persuation and Deception are listed as +20 on the DnD Beyond sheet. He is level 6 and has both skills as his expertise, which I know doubles the proficiency bonus. But I am having trouble determining why these two are at 20. I thought that the why skills are calculated are: Skill modifier = relevant ability modifier + proficiency bonus (if proficient) + other modifiers. So in his case, his charisma score is 18 which is a +4. Which would make his calculation the following Relevant ability modifier (4) + Proficiency bonus ( which is 6 due to the skill being an expertise and the proficiency mod at level 6 is 3) + other modifiers (none) = Skill modifier (10).

4+6=10
Am I missing something here?
Thanks
if he has hb items that could change it, or it could be manually edited cant say unless saw the sheet tho
Remove all homebrew. If this resolves issue then you have homebrew not set properly. Add back one by one until issue reoccurs and you have the culprit. My guess is that +1 to charisma was mistyped as +10.

The character is getting a total bonus of +10 to Charisma skills. There are 2 homebrew items that say they give +1 to Charisma checks - Pirate Captain's Coat and Nice Shirt. One or both of them is probably coded incorrectly.

Can you provide a link to the character sheet?

Here is the link to the character sheet. https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/31132704
I only homebrewed one item for him that should only give +1 to Charisma checks
Check if manually customised.

Thanks, I'll look at the items again. I must have made a mistake when I made them.
Thanks, I will try this out.
Thanks for the help! Looks like it was just my mistake in coding the HB items incorrectly.
Glad you were able to find the answer!
