On March 15th, I purchased a 6-month Master subscription to DNDBeyond, through Google Play. While awaiting my confirmation email, I looked into the website a bit further and found that I'd made a mistake, and the Master plan is not the one I wanted. So I immediately went to work sending an email to DNDBeyond, asking if I could get a quick refund so I could purchase something else instead. I sent the email 25 minutes after the purchase was made. I know there's disclaimers about sales being final on DNDBeyond, but the site also mentions that if you send an email and explain the situation, a solution can be found. After all, I didn't want to take back my whole payment. I just wanted to purchase a different item. Plus, Google Play's refund policy states that they grant refunds as long as it's within 48 hours. So surely, at least something would come of this, right? So I send the email, and I wait. A while.
On April 13th (almost an entire month later) I finally received a response from DNDBeyond, asking for more info + a screenshot. I replied with all the info they needed, and waited again. In the meantime, I contacted Google Play, to see if I could get a refund from that end (after all, I was expecting to wait another month from DNDBeyond). Google Play's help chat gave me much more hope- explaining that I should've been responded to sooner and that the customer service quality DNDBeyond is upholding will be reported to a higher-up at Google. And when I asked if this means I'll be getting a refund, Google Play assured me that it was very likely. They couldn't give it, since they are merely the marketplace platform and don't have the money anymore, so I'd be getting it from DNDBeyond themselves.
On April 25th, DNDBeyond answered again. They said since the subscription was made on Google Play, I'd have to reach out to them for a refund. I replied, saying I've already done that, and they [Google Play] said I'd have to reach out to you [DNDBeyond]. This is where the back-and-forth begins. I've had about a dozen emails to and from DNDBeyond with me trying to explain that Google says they can't give a refund, and DNDBeyond has to. I've also had an equal amount of emails/help chats with Google Play with me trying to explain that DNDBeyond also refuses to give a refund, and keeps referring me to Google. I also mentioned the "report to the higher-ups" that Google Play promised me to both parties, but neither of them acknowledge that it ever happened.
And that's where I'm at. Both companies have maintained the stance that there's nothing they can do, and my best bet is to reach out to the other. But I have. So many times. I feel totally stuck, at the whim of two massive companies, just looking to receive a refund for a mistake I corrected <30 mins after making it. It feels a bit silly, since it's only $43, but I'm more just frustrated at the monopoly of information I feel like I'm stuck inside, with neither party able to give me a straight answer and both insisting on the same thing over and over.
I've posted this thread in both the DNDBeyond forum and the Google Play forum. I'm not sure what it will accomplish, but I don't have the mental fortitude to keep being told the same thing over and over anymore. I'm just hoping to get one last bit of guidance, or maybe, just maybe, my money back.
Thank you for reading.
