Some legacy equipment and weapons are not available in the character app or in the equipment app. For example. the legacy lance is not available. The legacy lance has different properties than the 2024 lance, it does a d12 rather than a d10. The legacy trident is also not available, and it too has different properties than the 2024 version. This in addition to other aspects of broken support, such as damage dice for Monks.
Upping this. This is a completely unacceptable sneaky way of doing this. You conceded the legacy content after the uproar from the community, but even with that did it only the halfway. I see that items are still there, the ones that my characters had before the update are still there, marked as legacy. It's unacceptable that I lose access to items listed in sources I BOUGHT like 2014 PHB, exactly in the way they are written there. The fact that even in 2014 PHB you replaced all hyperlinks to the new descriptions is appauling!
Yes, definetly! I was just sorting my friends loot from our last session and I noticed spear had weird new property I have never seen before - sap. Thats when I noticed there is no option to add 2014 gear. We've been playing this campaign for over a year now, and I hate being forced to switch to new rules mid-campaign, so I guess we need to switch VTT

Except for lance, trident, and net, all the weapons are exactly the same. That 'sap' property does nothing to your character sheet unless you have the appropriate ability.
IIRC, they said they had to do it this way because of the way that magic weapons are built off the base weapons.
@hasbros @dndbeyond @wizarsofthecoast you slimey creepy disgusting cash hungry slime guzzling liars! the **** is your problem? why are you so greedy you readily destroy something good just to burn a path for more money. fix it. stop forcing us to buy redux shit. also turns out you can afford to sell your digital content for 10 bucks but 30 is where's it set? wanna make me jump your new stuff, make it affordable. anyways hope everyone finds this forums and flames yall for your corrupt business practice.
Went to add Drow Poison to one of my players' sheets, and it's not available???
Weird coz it is for me. Are you sure you're looking in the right place and have the 2014 rules on?

You don't have to buy anything. Just make a custom item/action on the sheet and you're done. It's only 3 things. That's it. They're basic and you can just fix in under a minute. This isn't worth the rant.

With 3 exceptions all other 2014 gear is available to add to sheets. Just enable the 2014 toggle and add them as normal. No big deal.

Unless D&D Beyond will properly support 2014, and soon, I imagine a lot of us will abandon it for alternatives.
All 2014 rules are still supported as before, with exception for 1 or 2 small things you can very easily circumvent.
If you need to use a different die for monks - use the different die, then. It's a temporary issue and you can just make a custom action with the correct die in like 30 seconds.

What folks are upset about isn't truly the practical hindrance. It's that they feel betrayed by a company they used to really like.
For users playing in 2014 campaigns, things have become a lot more annoying in D&D Beyond. Every list is cluttered with stuff they're not allowed to use, and there's no filter to hide it (even though there's always been filters to hide new content in the past). Plus, it seems there are numerous bugs preventing the use of 2014 content.
It does feel very much motivated by a desire for profit, trying to coax users to buy their new content by making them more uncomfortable with the 2014 content. That's what people are upset about. Telling them to just make custom items doesn't address the issue at all. 🤷♂️

I used to be able to click terms on the character sheet and see the correct rule, now I either get the new/wrong rule first before the rule I'm using, or in some cases onlyget the new rule and have to a) remember that it's incorrect and b) go and look it up myself.
I used to be able to update my character and know that anything presented to me was valid (restricted by the filters I'd chosen), now I have to check whether they are from the new or the old rules.
I used to be able to click links in the compendium to go to the relevant page in the book, now half of them point to the new books where the rules don't match.
Those are just the deliberate changes they've made, we've also had to put up with multiple bugs affecting existing 2014 characters because they've rushed out the new ruleset.
Anyone trying to play by the 2014 ruleset is getting a much worse experience now than we had before the 2024 release, and apart from a few things like the Monk die it doesn't look like DDB have any intention of fixing any of the issues. What are we paying DnDBeyond for if we have to homebrew or circumvent things to play by the official rules?

Many of us want to continue to play in long running campaigns using the 2014 rule set and may never wish to move to 2024. See this thread for an example: https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/bugs-support/208724-must-be-able-to-disable-all-2024-content-in-a?comment=1

Bumping this, my whole group is looking for alternatives for our legacy game
