Hi all, I feel like this might be a really stupid question but I have been searching and googling for almost two hours and I just can't find the answer. I've just finished creating my first character, a homebrewed warlock, and I can't seem to cast any of the warlock-specific spells (even the not homebrewed stuff, so I don't think it's something I did while tweaking stuff). When I press the 'cast' button, it just brings up the description of the ability, and there's a bit saying 'Cast' and next to it there's a button with 'pact slot' which is greyed out and clicking it does nothing, and there's a little red zero above it. I feel like I'm losing it because I can't for the life of me find anything that will let me cast this spell! Can anyone help? Thanks heaps.
(For reference, my non-warlock spells coming from my feat are working fine. I just click them and they show as used, no issue.)
I don't think I can share the class right now because there's a bunch of spells and other stuff that I've made which link into it which I'd need to submit first etc, but here's the character: https://ddb.ac/characters/4392917/72BH84
I don't think it's a problem with my homebrewing (because I re-sub-classed into the Fiend and I had the same issue), I just think there's some step to how you're supposed to cast spells as a warlock which I'm missing. What are the steps you're supposed to take? And what's the function of the 'pact' button above the spells?
Did you set the subclass to "can cast spells"? If you did, undo that. That's for subclasses of classes that don't gain spellcasting (Like Arcane Trickster for Rogue, or Eldritch Knight for Fighters)
It looks like you may have already cast your spell, you have just the one spell-slot at level one, so after taking a short or long rest you would have that recovered.
Also, the mods will be able to see your private homebrew if you post a link for them, so Filcat would be able to better assist you. :)
Thanks I've taken 'can cast spells' off. I've taken a short rest and a long rest, but now, I can click on the spell name (not the cast button, doing that has no reaction) and 'pact slot' is lit up red on the side screen, if I click that a little box comes up and says 'Cast (spell name) in spell slot level one' but then I can just keep clicking that a million times and when I go to long rest it's like '43 spell slots' under recover or whatever. If I click the 'Pact' button above the spells list so that it shows red then it will only let me cast the warlock spells once the way it should I think, but it doesn't say 'used' next to the spell.
All my homebrewing is based on tweaking existing things so I had hoped I hadn't broken anything but it seems that I have! -_-;;;
The main idea was having a warlock with a necrotic healer subclass, who was bound to a spirit of death and had to gather souls for them, but could 'spend' the souls to heal teammates. Built the subclass out of The Fiend as a template but with a few tweaks and the additional spells list switched towards necrotic heals and death saving abilities. The human variant was just because our DM specified that all humans would have the tame animals ability.
I'm having a similar problem (clicking "cast" in the sidebar doesn't do anything, and the spell slots are greyed out) - but I have zero homebrew ... https://ddb.ac/characters/7071982/wRK0cS
Update: when I disabled homebrew for this character on the starting page (had left it enabled even though I wasn't using it), everything started working. So I wonder if the bug is just tied to having homebrew enabled at all?

Post here the link address of your subclass, we can give a look.
