As a class feature, I'm trying to add spell to the player's spellbook, but still require the wizard to prepare the spell. For the sake of an example, let's consider adding "Conjure Celestial", natively only known to clerics, to the subclass.
Using "Additional Specific Spells" only opens up the capability of a wizard to learn the spell. So, at level 13 the wizard can potentially learn the spell, but it isn't given to them. This isn't my desired behavior, because I want to restrict at what level access is given, and I want the character to automatically obtain the spell in their spellbook.
In the "Class Feature>Spells", I add the spell with the parameters "Spell: Conjure Celestial", "Consumes Spell Slot: Yes", "Counts As Known Spell: Yes", and "Is Always Prepared: No". Doing this setup, the "Conjure Celestial" spell is only allowed once the Class Feature is given, but it automatically grants the spell instead of just making it available in the spellbook. The boolean for prepared only determines if it counts against prepared slots. The boolean for known spell doesn't really seem to mean much on wizard, since wizards don't have a limitation on known spells.
Just make the feature say "add {spell} to your spellbook if it is not their already." There are official Wizard subclasses that do that already (I think necromancer, I'm not going to check).
You're right about the necromancer subclass. So essentially we can't mechanically enforce this type of a feature, any user will just have to be vigilant about this kind of feature.
