Maybe I'm doing this wrong, but when I'm in character creation or on my character sheet, if I change my max HP, it resets after a long rest. I was using the character sheet to create a villain, and I'm trying to override his max hp. It seems like DnDB has an idea of what HP a 5th level human wizard should have and won't let me change it. My goal was to have him higher HP with a lower armor class, to make the final battle fun but not too quick.
I can change HP modifier or override HP, but is there no way to change Fixed HP to make it permanent?
There are two methods to generating the hit points of a character in Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition: Fixed, or Manual. You can choose this setting on the first page of your character builder.
If you choose 'Fixed' it will automatically generate the fixed value for you, so you don't need to do anything.
If you choose 'Manual', D&D Beyond will assume you're rolling or generating hit points by some other method, allowing you to update your hit points on the Class page of the builder.
When the setting is Manual, go to your class page and manage your hit points with the button in the top right. There, you can set in the first box the total of your rolled (or otherwise generated) hit points. The D&D Beyond sheet will automatically add the bonuses for Constitution and any feats that grant additional hit points.
It sounds like what you're using is the override abilities, which would be for updating your maximum HP to reflect temporary effects, such as maximum HP reduction from a vampire's bite.

Hope that helps!
That was exactly the problem, thank you. I knew it would be something simple. I was indeed set to Fixed instead of Manual.
