It’s up to you to decide whether a character has proficiency with a firearm. Characters in most D&D worlds wouldn’t have such proficiency. During their downtime, characters can use the training rules in the Player’s Handbook to acquire proficiency, assuming that they have enough ammunition to keep the weapons working while mastering their use.
Is there any way to get it to show the actual amount of shots it has until you need to reload it?
Any firearm listed in the DMG that has the reload property, in this case I used the Shotgun as an example but the same issue is with the Hunting Rifles, Antimatter Rifle, etc.
This appears to still be an issue. Firearms still do not show what their Reload score is on a character sheet. They just say the word "Reload" and no number appears to be associated with it. Had to go look up the weapons in the DMG to find the exact reload score of each weapon. Is there some way to get it to show up for players?

Can you link to what item you're referring to? You've missed off the item name

It's still an issue. Also, a firearm's item detail page doesn't show it ether.
Forever DM here. Seeking to make a decent campaign out of nothing.
Any update on this Davyd? This is a really useful feature idea
Interesting that this is still an issue
