When wielding a versatile weapon you are given different damage options to roll for 1h vs 2h on the character sheet. This same principle should apply to spells/attacks with different damage rolls.
Honestly, I don't know why this hasn't been implemented. A lot of spells change their damage based on certain conditions, Toll of the Dead and Ice Knife come to mind, so why not offer multiple options. On top of that, some spells just don't have dice buttons. Sleep and Color Spray don't do damage but their main thing is you roll dice to see how effective they are, why not have dice buttons?
