I realize that the encounter tool is still in development and a map tool would be an incredible undertaking.
I also believe that a map tool that could be accessed via browser that gave DMs a way to create a database of meaningful locations and open it to homebrew, where a community of engaged players and world builders alike could share their completed works. Whether it's a overview, regional, location, or dungeon-- maps create a space for DMs to illustrate their creativity and plan for the next path to follow.
World Maps - Overview, regional, or special terrain. I'd imagine Hexanol grid (5 mile rule, but adjustable legend)
Location maps- City, town, village level display of a designated point on the world map or as a standalone (a zoomed in form, adjustable from 1 mile hex/square)
Dungeons- as complex as a labyrinth or as simple as a hut, with a multi floor system here the crawl can be populated with NPCs, monsters, or items as designated into individual cells with dropdown menus.
[and a pipe dream, if you could designate maps to campaigns, and quick link populated monster encounters as individual or whole encounters on a map level with a prepopulated group to forward to the encounter builder and populate the party in the designated campaign, then achievement unlocked: D&D The Video Game]
Please share any ideas or thoughts about this system, I haven't put too much though or detail into the concept, but I kick myself every time I think about going to a map builder website , wishing that it was available as a tool on the DND Beyond browser.
Everything you suggest already exists - it's called World Anvil.
