So, I really like the online character sheets! Seriously... it's awesome you can see detailed descriptions of every aspect of your sheet.
But I don't understand the Inspiration button. You click it and it lights up, but there is now way to track how much inspiration you currently have. Also, there is no way to track hero points. Are these features available?

Inspiration by RAW is just that you either have it, or you don't, so you would have a maximum of 1 inspiration. Hero Points is an optional rule in the DMG. Currently, DDB is focusing on perfecting the experience by the standard ruleset, but they HAVE confirmed that the variant rules from the DMG will be included in the future.
You either have inspiration or you don’t - you can’t stockpile multiple “inspirations” for later use.
I really hope they include Hero Points as an option some time in the future. Currently I have to use a magic item called "Hero Points" and update it every time the PC's advance to a level divisible by 2.

Three years later and still no Hero points option?
A lot of optional rules (that aren't ubiquitous like feats and multiclassing) still aren't implemented. I'm still waiting for a Spell Points option.

Leaving OGL 1.0(a) untouched and making SRD 5.1 CC-BY-4.0 is a great first step. The next is a promise to do the same for future editions. Here's a discussion thread on that.
I DM with a live group (not online) and we use DnDBeyond for character sheet tracking, for inspiration and hero points I have coins that I give out, so when a player uses inspiration or hero points they give me a coin back instead of tracking it on a separate sheet.

Just started using D&D Beyond and was wondering the same thing (4 years after original post now...)

DDB is great, but it could be better. Here are some things I think could improve DDB
