Often times when creating a homebrew item or spell, you are restricted to a drop down menu, providing all properties and options that are in the RAW. It would be nice, since DND is so customizable, that we could add different custom options to creations. Such as custom item property [Keen] (from 3.5), or any other adjusted property. Even if not by name Keen, just the ability to express [expanded critical hit range], or a basic description of custom properties would be nice... Too hard to do? I understand things are more complicated than they often seem.
I've got a number of similar requests along these lines.
Another example of the options being limited to what's already in the rules is ability score bonuses and proficiency selections. Currently there are 14 different combinations of ability score bonus choices available. I have a homebrew feat that provides a +1 to Int, Wis, or Cha but that option is not available in the dropdown. Instead I implement it by choosing the "+1 to any" option and making sure players only pick the intended choices. Same with any type of user-selectable proficiency or bonus-granting thing. If you choose a proficiency or ability score as a bonus, there should just be a field where you can select all the valid options to be presented to the player. The first field in the "spells" option for homebrew feats works like this already.
Request #2: It would be great if feats and items could add spells to your list of spells known/prepared, like a druid circle, cleric domain, or paladin oath can. You can sort of hack it by making them at-will and ensuring the player knows they have to manually check off a spell slot when they cast it. I have a number of homebrew patron god-specific feats that would benefit from this.
Request #3: This has probably been mentioned a ton before, but the ability to create mundane items, languages, weapons, armor, etc. I know that homebrew weapons and armor might be a pain when implementing them for magic items, but perhaps there could just be a field for custom weapons and armor where you can select one or more "counts as" official weapon or armor types? For example I have a homebrew elven sword type that counts as either a longsword or scimitar depending on the wielder's preference (with stats to match). Or if I were to make a dwarven plate mundane armor, I could select "counts as" plate mail for how it is treated as a magic item option. Just a thought.
I just have to say that the team has done a fantastic job so far with the site, and am happy to support it.
