Listen, I get that they are trying to add and impliment stuff. But the way they implimented 2014 vs 2024 spells is..... a nightmare to put it best? If I wanna use a spell that has both 2014 and 2024 versions, I gotta have Legacy Content turned on. You know what that does? Cause it to show up twice!! I just had my party level up and, while we have legacy content on, the entire party is spellcasters (somehow) and I have been asked way too many times "which one do I use" because they are getting confused!
They should add some sort of setting to turn OFF the 2024 stuff from showing up. And before someone says "oh just pick the books you wanna use in the settings! you can do that!" .... Do you understand how many things I would have to turn on just to make sure the 2024 Core spells don't appear? I use the 2014 core books, Tasha's and Xanthar, Fizban, Eberron, Critical Role, Kobold Press, Ghostfire, and a lot of others that don't use 2024 core stuff. Therefore, I would have to change these settings every. single. time. just to prep stuff. I would have to tell my players every. single. TIME to make sure THEY don't get confused! The settings don't save! and God FORBID you misclick and have to do it all over again.
Am I the only one getting annoyed at this? Struggling to adjust? Please, DnDBeyond, I beg, make this easier for players and DMs who don't WANT to use 2024 rules to just turn them off. I can't make a campaign just, suddenly, use 2024 spells.
Just to point out, all the Legacy spells have a Legacy tag on them in the spell list when you go to add spells. As nice as the feature would be to have, the players' confusion is their own fault if they can't look at two options and click the one that says Legacy consistently.
EDIT: This is the case in both mobile and web. So the platform isn't the issue. Checked mobile for both website and app and it's all consistent.

I'm also running another campaign with players that are new to dnd. We were gonna use 2014 rules because when we planned it the 2024 stuff wasn't out. They're getting confused on what means what. It would be at least convenient for those players
Plus 1 to this thread. It's confusing on multiple levels since not all of the books are marked as "legacy" just the official content. So if you have a mix of 2014 books and other sources like critical role only the 2014 books are marked as legacy. Which leaves me and my players wondering what things we are accidentally going to click and use the 2024 version by mistake. Make it make sense...
I have Legacy content turned on, and still can't even get 2014 content to show up in searches at all. If I filter spells by "PHB (2014)" and "Cleric", it shows zero results, for example.
It would be helpful if two things were implemented.
1. The race/species databases include the drop down options of "Core", "Expanded Rules", and "Legacy". These types of drop downs should be expanded to the databases for the spells, magic items, and monsters. Right now, these databases appear to only have one pool of entries, which is in large part what is causing this issue.
2. These drop down options should also include the year they are associated with. Right now "Core" is only the 2024 PHB. "Expanded Rules" gives the impression that it is 2024 with the way things are named right now, but it is actually the list of expanded rules for the 2014 game; i.e. everything post Tasha's. "Legacy" should get the 2014 appellation added to it just for clarity.

Even though both of those searches have the PHB 2014 and Cleric filters, they're different searches. (I know. It's confusing.)
In the first search, which showed up with zero results, I used Cleric from the Core Rules. This meant the 2024 Cleric, which has no spells in the 2014 PHB.
In the second search, which showed all the results, I scrolled down past the Core Rules, past the Expanded Rules, and into the Legacy to select that cleric which was the 2014 Cleric.
Like Grymwyrd mentioned, it would be helpful if DDB included the year in those search options so that it was clearer what you're selecting.
WoTC shareholders couldn't commit to a 6th edition for fear of losing income from the massive popularity of 5e players, and all the wonderful 3rd party creators that have added to 5e over the last decade. So instead they've sabotaged 5e by added "shiny and new" versions, power creep, and fully stronger versions of classes and subclasses, that makes any player who wanted to enjoy "legacy" content feel like they're making a poor choice compared to the "upgraded" available versions.
I've played D&D for many years, and almost every edition. I even stuck through 4th edition. But I won't stick through this. I've already cancelled my master subscription, until a filter is added to allow DNDBeyond to continue to function as a resource for 5th edition, for myself and my table, and have the wonderful option to be rid the undesired 2024 rules.
I'd even pay money to have the option just to not see the 2024 rules.
I'd even pay money to have the option just to not see the 2024 rules.
Exactly this!
I'm not paying master tier subscription prices to have this new version forced on me. Subscription cancelled.
If they don't change this soon I'll also be cancelling my subscription and moving back to Roll20 character sheets. It's not as good but we made do for years without DnD Beyond and we can still go back.
Yes to all of the above. In fact, if possibe i would prefer if my account can be set to "use 2014 rules etc" or "use 2024 rules" as they are supposedly not all that compatible in the first place. If not that that at the verry least give us that option for character creation.
Besides all of that, it would be great if you could port subclasses between the new and old class option. I recently made a subclass for druid and when i went to check as to why it didn´t show up on a test character I sadly realized i accidentially made it for 2024 druid (which I dont even have access to btw) and since i cant port it over I had to do all the work again.
Me too. The search feature is killing me, mid-game. I try to quickly look up a spell so I can see what it does, and I get inundated with entries for content I don't own and that is not applicable to the game I am running. Kudos for trying to sell me new crap, but can I please have a product that works with the thousand-dollars worth of books I already paid for???
Like others, I have canceled my subscription until they give us the option to turn off the 2024 content. I don't want to be forced into 6th edition just because they want me to. Sadly, instead of buying physical books, I bought digital books exclusively for use with the character creator, so my Legendary Bundle worth of books is going to be a really expensive endeavor to rebuy as physical books.
I honestly am never going to use 5.5e since I don't really like any of the new additions to the rules. I don't want to have to buy the core rule books again just because wotc is greedy for more money. Even if the new campaigns are 5.5e based, I'm still not going to buy the rulebooks, or the campaigns. All wotc is doing is making people want to stop playing DND.
Please, this is so confusing for my players. Some things have two definitions, some have one but only the new one, some have duplicate options. Baffles me why there isn't a single toggle

I am about to start up a campaign me and my friends haven't been able to play for three months.
I think this will be a huge problem for us too.
Wha wha WALUIGI

I think I know what happened. My guess is that you're getting this result: https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells?filter-class=2190877&filter-search=&filter-verbal=&filter-somatic=&filter-material=&filter-concentration=&filter-ritual=&filter-source=2&filter-partnered-content=f
But what you expected was this result: https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells?filter-class=2&filter-search=&filter-verbal=&filter-somatic=&filter-material=&filter-concentration=&filter-ritual=&filter-source=2&filter-partnered-content=f

This is a signature. It was a simple signature. But it has been upgraded.
Belolonandalogalo, Sunny | DraĂocht, Kholias | Eggo Lass, 100 Dungeons
Tendilius Mondhaven Paxaramus, Drakkenheim | Talorin Tebedi, Vecna: Eve
Bombil, Hunt for Yeenoghu | Cherry Littleoak, Stormwreck | Phait, Lost Mine of Phandelver
Beneath the Mountain | Let's Test Monsters!
Get rickrolled here. Awesome music here. Track 36, 10/3/24, How Can I Keep From Singing?
Thanks, VitusW. That was indeed the problem.
What an absolutely horrible UI/UX design choice.

Yep. Ongoing campaigns are completely wrecked by this awful rollout. Shame on all the people involved who didn't see this coming.

I think it is needed on a account wide scale something like this picture
