Happily my GMs have not switched to the new system but some in my group created 2024 versions of their characters.
In wanting to try the same with the new rules, some things seem out-right backwards. You're asked to pick an origin, then description, etc. BEFORE picking a race, which seems bonkers. I would think you pick character race *first* as that might influence all of those things. It would be silly indeed (thought I know those races are not in the 2024 basic rules) if you put down 'tan with blonde hair, etc' if you then select a Harengon, or the race with an elemental parent.
As others have noted, being able to easily filter everything away from the 2024 rules or vice versa really needs to happen. It took me about six tries, a lot of confusion and the help of a GM friend to point out why creating a 2014 paladin was such a struggle for me.

Just general feedback here.
The character creation process described in the 2024 Player's Handbook talks about appearance as one of the last steps, after class, species, background, etc. You may be thinking of just how it's laid out in the tabs in the D&D Beyond character builder, which should not be taken as an official ruling of any kind, and there is of course no requirement that you actually do things in that order.
That said, I would agree that D&D Beyond has made an absolute mess of implementing the new stuff in the character builder, and it's frustrating that they don't seem to be responding to feedback in a reasonable way.
As a side note, why would you put down those physical characteristics if you're planning a harengon or genasi anyway? And what's preventing you from going back and updating the info based on a later choice?
How can one confirm they have the 2024 rules when creating a Character? I purchased the 2024 digital copy of the player's handbook (Not the 2024 DM guide or monster manual) but my Character Creation shows a check box for 2014 rules and "Extra Content" which is apparently everything beyond the 2014 rules? Would this Extra Content include the 2024 content I purchased?

Options from the 2024 core books (Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, Monster Manual) are always enabled.
Checking "2014 Core Rules" will enable options from the 2014 versions of those three core books.
Checking "Expanded Rules" will enable options from other official WOTC books (e.g. Tasha's Cauldron of Everything).
