Really wish the original encounter builder could just be updated with the 2024 rules. The filtering, labeling, clear at a glance challenge ratings and legacy status listings, among many other features.. makes the original encounter builder far superior to what the one in maps can do. The Encounter Builder should build Encounters. The Maps, build Maps.
I'd like to see the Encounter Builder build templates of combats that can be placed down on a map. So you build an Encounter, then when you're ready, add it to a map with tokens and the running combat. I'm a big fan of running the combat on the map, but it's very limiting to have to build the encounter in real time during the game.
While spending some time playing around with the new encounters in maps, the one thing i'm having a problem with is that i'm not seeing where it calculates the XP for the encounters. i can see after i build one that the difficulty based on 2024 DMG is there, but i don't see an XP value for the combat. Is this something that i'm going to just have to build in the encounter builder or am i missing something? i don't really have a problem building in both (i do wish there was some integration) but if i build in the encounter builder it's not the right difficulty because of the difference between 2014 and 2024 rulesets.
Using maps for a few session now and loving it. With players in two différents continent, it's a great tool for us.
Last session, the warlock use "summon aberation" and i could'nt find how to make it work easily for him, with stats and movements. I tried the Extra section to add a companion (summon filter) but it wasn't the best way to do it, i am sure.
I think after playing some time with the map tool there shure are things that I really love and hate. Most of the stuff might be generally known, or already agread upon
Category 1: Information & Combat - Add a player card that links the most important informations, having an overview of their Health, AC and Skills can improve the flow of the game, esp. with newer persons on the Table. Its still on the nice to have side though, since you can just open the player sheet. - Creature card (without the need to be in combat). My current workaround would be to open the monster information page or the encounter. - Better or more detailed options for marking. I would love to have the feature of multimarking tokens, but starting with more colors or at least mini icons to show a status of the creature would really help. I currently have to set a rule for each color and give my players an overview what each color means. Mini Icons can help in that regards and give more options to use the colors.
Category 2: Control and UI - Hotkey Overview and more hotkeys. A simple information button that you can find in the menu, to see all the hotkeys. Pressing one button and being able to remove or add fog of war would be so great and imrove the flow
That is all I remember right now that is kinda bothering me.
These one would be on a nice to have wishlist: - Preset Fog of war: This would be simpler then a dynamic system and would help in improving the flow of the game while using fog of war. It can be as simple as adding layers to fog of war, that you can toggle on or off. - Inbuild sound and mood libary. Although I kinda suck with the usage of sounds and musik and mostly have a player control this. Some might love it. And the ability to play a static mood sound through the browser can help set a little bit of tone.
I had a Master Tier subscription for about 5 minutes, until I realized the limitations of the Maps tool for running encounters. I was excited to try out a clever little idea using maps encounters for my in-person game.
My plan was simple - use the map as an encounter builder, uploading a map as a .png file with that stat blocks shown on it. Literally, just a google slide with snips of stat blocks pasted inside - that way I could quickly glance at monster stats while using the sidebar to update HP.
Not an AWFUL idea, right? Well... until I realized that shared content is not available, and my wife owns our entire collection and shares it over to me. So, spend hundreds of dollars to re-purchase everything, or stick with the old encounter tool. And that is why I immediately downgraded.
Hopefully they open up shared content in the future. I love the encounter tool, but if it's not going to be updated anymore, I may just have to make my own. :/

This always struck me as a mistake when I realized you couldn't use the content you'd shared. Especially if a DM wants to be a player for once, and so shares their collection with one of their players. That player, elevated to DM, has to either buy everything themselves, or use Owlbear Rodeo.
The team has clearly done a great job over the last year improving the product, and I want to acknowledge that. I was so impressed with the Maps feature that I even bought a Master-tier subscription for my DM, specifically so he could use Maps with the shared content in our games.
But then we found out he couldn't use any of the content I was sharing with him.
When he let me know, the only confirmation I could find were random posts saying, "Shared content isn't available for Maps." That feels incredibly misleading. At the very least, there should be clear, prominent communication that shared content isn't currently supported in Maps.
With the new Dragon Delves launch actively promoting the Maps feature, I’m worried this is going to catch a lot of players and DMs off guard. Folks are going to pay for a feature that ends up being far more limited than expected.
Please consider making shared content available, or at the very least, make this limitation very clear up front.
