I swore I read somewhere that a majority of released content was going to be cross-compatible for 2014 and 2024 character building stuff?
I understand that there are core mechanics between the 2014 and 2024 that have been changed/improved/botched, but I thought that's what the "our sheets do the math for you" thing was? I must've aaaaaabsolutely misunderstood whatever I read ENTIRELY.
Do I need to make homebrew sheets for everything new from now on because it can't all be accessed with the 2014 legacy build options? Example: make a "legacy" version of whatever newly released class I might want to run on a legacy character? Spells, too?

There has never been any official announcement to that effect as far as I'm aware.
All the 2014-style content still exists and can still be used the same way it always has been. A lot of the 2024 character options can't be used with 2014 classes, but I think that's to be expected, as lot of them depend on 2024 changes to the rules and class features. Has it ever worked differently when a new version of the game comes out?
